🌱 This World Environment Day, we carried the message of nature inspiring action for a safer future across schools in Enugu State, engaging students in meaningful conversations about our environment and a tree-planting exercise.

There was hope in their eyes as the trees went into the ground. The seeds we plant today in young minds and in the soil, will grow into the forests of tomorrow.

We are proud of every student, teacher, and school that took part in today’s activity.

World Environment Day is a reminder, but our commitment must continue every day. Let’s keep the momentum going every day, not just today.

🌍 Today, on World Environment Day themed, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future", we are reminded that nature is not separate from our future, it is what sustains us.

We remain committed to advancing climate action, environmental stewardship, and building a more resilient world for all. Every tree planted, every river protected, every sustainable choice made brings us closer to the future we want.

Let us be inspired by nature and act boldly for climate, for people, and for generations to come.

Happy World Environment Day.

📊 The road to SCGPRR 3.0 begins!

The Society for Planet and Prosperity (SPP), in partnership with the Department of Climate Change (DCC) of the Federal Ministry of Environment, has kicked off preparations for the third edition of the Subnational Climate Governance Performance Rating and Ranking (SCGPRR 3.0).

Since its conception in 2024, the SCGPRR has grown into Nigeria's first credible, comparative, and evidence-based benchmarking tool for subnational climate governance, driving healthy competition among states and establishing climate governance as a true leadership issue at the subnational level.

Last week marked two significant milestones in the process:

✅ Inauguration of the Quality Assurance & Expert Review Panel—a distinguished group of independent experts tasked with safeguarding the credibility, integrity, and legitimacy of the ranking.

✅ Convening of Climate Desk Officers and State Directors from all 36 states—orienting subnational officers on the data collection process and the critical role of evidence-based, inter-ministerial collaboration in preparing submissions.

"The Subnational Climate Governance Performance Rating and Ranking has become one of the most consequential and impactful climate programmes at the subnational level today, impacting millions of lives."—Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke, President, SPP

More accountability. Stronger frameworks. Greater impact.

📰 In this spotlight piece, Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke, President of the Society for Planet and Prosperity (SPP), makes a compelling case for shifting climate finance and green investment opportunities beyond the federal level to Nigeria’s subnational governments. He argues that empowering states and local actors is key to mainstreaming climate considerations into development planning and accelerating practical action.

Prof. Okereke will facilitate a focused thematic session on “Nigeria’s Subnationals as an Untapped Goldmine for Green Investments” at the forthcoming Nigeria Investment Summit, held on the sidelines of London Climate Action Week (LCAW) 2026, the world’s largest climate gathering, on 23 June 2026.
