On this International Day of the Girl Child, we reaffirm the importance of investing in girls through quality education, accessible healthcare, gender equality, protection from gender-based violence, and meaningful opportunities for participation and leadership.

Girls are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are active contributors to their communities today. Their voices matter, their dreams deserve support, and their rights must be protected.

At OCID we believe that empowering girls is essential to building safer, healthier, and more inclusive communities. We call on families, communities, institutions, and policymakers to work together to remove the barriers that prevent girls from reaching their full potential.

This year’s theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” reminds us that every girl deserves a childhood free from harmful practices, the freedom to make informed choices, and the opportunity to shape her own future.

Let us move beyond words to meaningful action by protecting girls’ rights, challenging harmful social norms, and creating opportunities for every girl to reach her full potential.

OCID was represented at the NHIA NIGERIA session on the commissioning of five research studies aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health insurance system and advancing Universal Health Coverage.

The studies focus on health insurance efficiency, referral pathways and gatekeeping, equity and financial protection, accreditation and quality of care, as well as awareness, enrolment and retention.

We value opportunities to engage with conversations that place evidence, research and accountability at the centre of strengthening Nigeria’s health system.

At OCID we believe peace is strengthened when people are heard, differences are respected, opportunities are accessible, and communities are empowered through dialogue and collective action.

As a youth and women led organization, we remain committed to promoting inclusion, youth participation, dignity and sustainable community development.

Peace is built every day, through our choices, actions and commitment to one another.

Advancing Inclusive Climate Governance.

On 27 August 2026, OCID joined the Sauri Growth Initiative (SGI-WYD) on an advocacy and partnership visit to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Abuja.

The engagement focused on advancing inclusive climate governance by ensuring that the voices and needs of women, particularly women and young persons with disabilities, are reflected in climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, preparedness and emergency response.

Discussions highlighted the importance of accessible emergency communication, meaningful participation of persons with disabilities, inclusive planning, and stronger collaboration with communities and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities.

During the visit, a representative of NEMA presented copies of the National Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (2025–2030) to the advocacy delegation and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to ensuring that emergency management efforts reach every Nigerian.

For OCID, the engagement further strengthens our commitment to climate action while ensuring that vulnerable and underserved communities are not left behind.

We appreciate Sauri Growth Initiative for convening this important engagement and creating space for stakeholders to contribute to building a more inclusive and resilient Nigeria.

Inclusive development requires inclusive participation.

OCID was represented by its Executive Director, CHIKA OGAMBA at the two-day Training of Trainers on “Young Women Leading Change: Strengthening Leadership, Peacebuilding, and Community Action through Peer Learning and Mentorship.”

The training provided a valuable platform for deepening knowledge and practical skills around peacebuilding, conflict analysis, advocacy, mentorship, and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agendas.

For OCID, the value of such learning lies in its translation into meaningful grassroots action. The insights gained will strengthen our efforts to empower young women, amplify community voices, promote inclusive participation, and support locally driven approaches to peace and development across the communities we serve.

We are grateful to Wanep Nigeria the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) (GNWP) and Global Affairs Canada for investing in the capacity of young women and gender equality allies to lead with knowledge, purpose, and impact.

We are pleased to share that OCID was represented at the Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) Roundtable for Female Professionals organised by faithandfreedomafrica

Our Executive Director CHIKA OGAMBA successfully completed the training and was certified as a Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) Advocate further strengthening our organisation’s capacity to promote human rights, inclusion, peaceful coexistence, and community engagement.

At OCID, we believe that continuous learning is essential to creating sustainable impact. The knowledge and perspectives gained through this engagement will help inform our programmes, advocacy efforts, and partnerships as we continue working to build inclusive, resilient, and empowered communities.
