Meet Ismaila Yekini, One Acre Fund Nigeria's Contact Center Coordinator.

Since joining the organization in 2022 as a Call Center Agent, Ismaila has progressed to Supervisor and now leads Nigeria's Contact Center, overseeing inbound and outbound calls, farmer feedback, and the data-driven insights that help improve how we serve smallholder farmers.

What first attracted him was the opportunity to do meaningful work that directly impacts rural farming families. What has kept him is the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead.

What does youth participation look like in agriculture in Nigeria?

Our latest snapshot shows that young people are already a significant part of the farmers and field teams we work with:

👩🏾‍🌾 54% of farmers we serve are under 35
👩🏾 6% of farmers we serve are women under 35
🌱 64% of our field staff are under 35

We’re also supporting young farmers through practical solutions including Integrated Pest Management, digital weather advisory services and fruit tree distribution.

These figures tell an important story: young people are not waiting for the future of agriculture. They are already shaping it.

As part of Young Farmers, Stronger Futures, we’re celebrating young farmers, listening to their experiences and exploring what more can be done to help them build thriving livelihoods.

Explore the snapshot and discover what youth participation looks like at One Acre Fund Nigeria.

Every tree planted today can help create healthier soils, more resilient farms and stronger communities tomorrow.

Through our Trees Program, One Acre Fund supports smallholder farmers to restore degraded landscapes, strengthen resilience to climate change and diversify their livelihoods through agroforestry and high-value fruit trees.

This International Youth Day, we're celebrating young people who are proving that farming is a pathway to opportunity, leadership, and purpose.

Meet Fatima Yakubu from Kwakuti, Niger State, and Inarigu Emmanuel Ama from Assakio, Nasarawa State; two young Nigerians whose stories are helping reshape perceptions of agriculture.

At just 19, Fatima is a farmer, student, entrepreneur, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Community Champion. She's sharing sustainable farming knowledge with fellow farmers and helping her community manage pests using environmentally friendly practices.

At 21, Emmanuel is balancing life as a farmer and goalkeeper for Stinga FC. With access to quality farm inputs, training, and field support, he increased his maize harvest from one bag to seven bags, helping him support his family while investing in his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Though their journeys are different, they share one thing in common: when young people have access to the right tools, knowledge, and opportunities, they don't just transform their own lives—they inspire change in their communities.

👉 Swipe through to meet the young changemakers helping shape the future of agriculture in Nigeria.

This , we’re celebrating young farmers who are proving that agriculture is more than a livelihood — it can be a pathway to opportunity, leadership, innovation and purpose.

Across Nigeria, young people are farming, building businesses, supporting their families, sharing knowledge and contributing to the food systems that sustain our communities.

But celebration is only the beginning.

We are listening to our young farmers; to understand the barriers they face, the opportunities they see and what can be done differently to help them thrive.

Because when young farmers have access to the right tools, knowledge and opportunities, they don’t just strengthen their own futures. They help build a stronger future for Nigerian agriculture.

Today, we celebrate their ambition.
This month, we listen to their voices.
And together, we work towards stronger futures for young farmers.

Happy International Youth Day!
