Although period poverty is globally recognized, however it gets little attention in Nigeria because most people believe menstruation should be shrewded in secrecy rather than dignifying a women. According to UN and UNICEF estimation, one in ten African girls miss school during menstruation which means they fall back in their studies and often drop out of school.
To reduce school absentism by girls during menstruation Caridad Charity foundation came up with the initiative of training young girls and vulnerable women on how to make their reusable menstrual pads which which is reusable, washable and sustainable.
During the training, we teach girls menstrual hygiene, and how to manage their period during mensuration. The right food to eat and avoid during menstruation also we introduce the right tools and fabric needed to make a reusable menstrual pad.
Reusable menstrual pad help girls stay confident during menstruation, it helps girls stay healthy and in school and help reduce period poverty.
