Africa Climate Forum 2025

Reflections from Abuja 🇳🇬🌍

I had the privilege of attending the Africa Climate Forum (ACF) 2025, a two-day event that wrapped up today at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Central Business District, Abuja.

Themed “Bolder, Greener and Better Steps,” the forum brought together governments, investors, and innovators across Africa to advance the continent’s green transition and addressing funding, technology, and capacity gaps in climate action.

It was truly a gathering of great minds, with strong representation from the United Nations, and numerous African countries. Bold conversations on climate justice, green energy, and sustainable development filled the two days.

For me, championing climate change solutions at the intersection of agriculture and health at The Macs Foundation , it was an exciting and compelling experience, especially as we prepare for Macs Foundation Global Conference on 30th and 31st October, 2025 with the theme: “Climate Change: An Integrated Approach to Agriculture and Health using Artificial Intelligence.” and the unveiling of the MACS Climate Change Academy - MCCA

Also, a highlight of my participation was an engaging conversation with Hon. Terseer Ugbor, Member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Environment and Chairman, Ad-hoc Committee on Single-Use Plastic Ban

He made a strong case for Africa to “discuss climate in our own terms,” emphasizing that resistance to change often comes from exclusion, that is, when people are not part of the process.

The Africa Climate Forum 2025 was, indeed, two days of truth and justice. Pointing the way toward a just transition and inclusive energy future. Africa may currently be the “darkest continent” in terms of energy access, but with collective effort and bold steps, the light of a green transition will shine across the continent.

CONCEPT NOTE

MACS FOUNDATION GLOBAL CONFERENCE

Date: Thursday 30th – Friday 31st October, 2025
Venue: The Partners Mini Mall, Pyakassa, Abuja – Nigeria
Theme: “Climate Change: An Integrated Approach to Agriculture and Health using Artificial Intelligence.”

Background and Rationale

Climate change remains one of the most pressing global challenges, with far-reaching consequences for agriculture, health, and livelihoods. In Africa, rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, flooding, and drought have disrupted food systems, reduced productivity, caused food insecurity and increased vulnerability to diseases. These effects continue to undermine national development efforts and threaten the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the same time, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming how we understand and respond to these complex issues. From predicting weather patterns and managing crop health to tracking disease outbreaks and optimizing resource use, AI presents powerful tools for mitigating the impact of climate change. Integrating AI into agricultural and health systems offers a new frontier for innovation, efficiency, and resilience.

The MACS Foundation 2-Day Global Conference seeks to explore the intersection between climate change, agriculture, health, and artificial intelligence. The conference will bring together global experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to share knowledge, discuss emerging solutions, and chart pathways for sustainable adaptation and growth.

Objectives

The key objectives of the conference are to:

1. Examine how climate change affects agriculture and health in developing economies.

2. Explore the role of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing climate adaptation and resilience in the agriculture and health sectors.

3. Promote integrated, data-driven solutions that strengthen food systems and public health responses.

4. Facilitate cross-sector collaboration between governments, academia, civil society, and private innovators.

5. Identify and promote scalable innovations and policies for sustainable agricultural and health systems.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the conference, participants are expected to:

1. Produce a policy communiqué outlining AI-driven strategies for climate resilience in agriculture and health.

2. Strengthen networks and partnerships between local and international stakeholders.

3. Identify practical AI applications that can improve environmental monitoring, disease prevention, and food security.

4. Enhance capacity and awareness on the use of emerging technologies for sustainable development.

Key Highlights of the Event

1. Technical Paper Presentations from experts and researchers.

2. Keynote Address by leading voices in climate, agriculture and health.

3. Panel Sessions focusing on practical interventions and case studies.

4. Networking Opportunities to foster collaboration across sectors and regions.

5. Recognition and Awards to outstanding contributors in these sectors

*Target Participants*

1. Government representatives and policymakers.

2. Development agencies and international organizations.

3. Academic and research institutions.

4. Civil society groups and NGOs.
