Healthcare is a team sport.

Doctors are important. But they’re not the whole team.

Nurses. Pharmacists. Lab scientists. Physiotherapists. Dietitians. Allied health professionals. And you, the patient.

Everyone has a role to play in better healthcare.

That’s why Patient-Doctor Forum Nigeria is now Patient-Provider Forum Nigeria Patient-Provider Forum Nigeria || Advocacy NGO

Same mission. Same commitment. Bigger team.

Because better conversations don’t happen when one player speaks.

They happen when the whole team is heard.

Welcome to Patient-Provider Forum Nigeria.

Let’s have better conversations that lead to better care.

How do you deal with a patient who starts to chatter because you were welcoming as a doctor?

That was a question a doctor asked me during a recent session at Ultramed Hospitals, Abuja.

Earlier, during another session, someone had asked:

ā€œIs it proper for a doctor to tell a patient, ā€˜You only have 15 minutes with me’?ā€

Both questions reveal one of the realities of healthcare today:

Doctors have limited time. Patients have a lot to say.

A doctor wants to be warm and welcoming, but also needs to keep the consultation focused.

A patient wants to feel heard, but may not know what information is important or how much time they have.

And somewhere in between lies the communication challenge.

The answer is not to become less welcoming.
Neither is it to pretend that time constraints don't exist.

The solution is to equip healthcare workers with practical communication skills that allow them to do both: build rapport AND manage the consultation effectively.

How do you acknowledge a patient's concerns without allowing the consultation to go completely off track?

How do you communicate time boundaries without making a patient feel rushed or dismissed?

How do you help patients tell their stories more effectively?

These are not theoretical questions.
These are everyday situations healthcare workers face.

And this is exactly the kind of problem Patient-Provider Forum Nigeria wants to help solve.

We are moving beyond conversations about why communication matters to developing practical, workable communication solutions that healthcare teams can actually use.

Because good communication shouldn't have to compete with efficiency.

When done well, it improves it.

Thank you to the team at Ultramed Hospitals for having us and, importantly, for asking the difficult questions.

The conversation continues. And we're building the tools to make it better.

Why just doctors?

It’s a question we’ve been asked repeatedly and one we’ve been asking ourselves too.

Patients don’t experience healthcare through doctors alone. They interact with nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and many others who all shape their care.

So, we’re making a change.

Patient–Doctor Forum Nigeria is becoming Patient–Provider Forum Nigeria.

The name is changing, but our mission remains the same: to create better conversations, build trust, and improve healthcare experiences for everyone.

This is our first announcement.
There’s more to come.

Meanwhile, what do you think about this change?
