UYDI Spotlight | Driving Innovation Through Renewable Energy and Data Science
Ubuntu Youths for Development Initiative (UYDI) is pleased to celebrate another important milestone in advancing youth-led innovation for sustainable development.
Our Founder and President, Innocent Aniekan, has successfully completed a technical project titled "Hybrid Solar–Diesel–Battery Energy Optimization Using Python and Power BI."
The project demonstrates how renewable energy systems can be optimized through data analysis and digital technologies to improve energy reliability, reduce diesel consumption, lower operating costs, and minimize carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. It combines engineering principles with data analytics to support informed decision-making for sustainable energy planning, particularly in Nigeria and across Africa.
As part of the project, interactive dashboards were developed using Power BI to visualize technical, economic, environmental, and battery performance indicators, while the complete workflow and documentation were published through a professional GitHub repository (https://github.com/Innocentaniekan/Hybrid-Solar-Diesel-Battery-Optimization), to encourage knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
This achievement reflects UYDI's commitment to promoting innovation, STEM education, digital skills, and practical solutions that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially affordable and clean energy, quality education, climate action, and industry innovation.
The project also marks the beginning of a broader research journey, with the next phase focusing on (Solar Energy Forecasting Using Machine Learning) to further strengthen the application of artificial intelligence in renewable energy planning.
UYDI remains committed to empowering young people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to develop practical solutions to local and global challenges.
