Thanks to funding by the World Bank Group, Jalingo, , is taking a central stage in Nigeria’s land restoration journey as Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Project, launches a capacity-building mission on sustainable land restoration and Gum Arabic management.
The mission brings together field practitioners, extension workers, and community stakeholders to strengthen technical knowledge and practical skills required to restore degraded landscapes and enhance the sustainable management of natural resources. Participants will receive hands-on training in post-planting management, beat-up and gap filling, pruning techniques, tree health monitoring, agroforestry practices, and community-led restoration approaches.
Beyond building technical capacity, the initiative places strong emphasis on Environmental and Social Safeguard, ensuring that women and youth are actively engaged in restoration efforts and benefit from emerging livelihood opportunities within the Gum Arabic value chain. By empowering local communities with the knowledge and tools to manage restored landscapes, the programme is helping to create more resilient ecosystems, improve land productivity, and support sustainable incomes.
Through collaborative action and local ownership, FAO and ACReSAL are supporting communities to restore their environment, improve livelihoods, and build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
