🟡 What if I told you that someone sitting next to you right now could be living with hepatitis and not even know it?
It could be your neighbour. Your colleague. Your friend. It could even be you.
That’s because hepatitis is often called a “silent disease.” It can quietly damage the liver for years without causing any obvious symptoms.
Here’s why this conversation matters:
🟡 Over 20 million Nigerians are living with Hepatitis B or C, making Nigeria one of the countries with the highest burden of viral hepatitis in the world.
🟡 More than 90% of those infected don’t know they have it. They may unknowingly pass it on to others or miss the opportunity to get treatment before serious damage is done.
🟡 If left untreated, hepatitis can lead to liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and even liver cancer.
The good news? Hepatitis B can be prevented with a vaccine, and early testing can make all the difference.
This World Hepatitis Day, don’t assume you’re fine because you feel fine.
💛 Know your status.
💉 Get vaccinated against Hepatitis B.
✂️ Avoid sharing razors, clippers, needles, and other sharp objects.
🗣️ Encourage someone you love to get tested too.
Sometimes, the healthiest thing you can do is have a conversation that could save a life.
