TAX: JRB Engages Finance Minister to Address Emerging Issues in Tax Reform Implementation

The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has called on the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, to intervene in a number of issues critical to shaping the future of tax administration, revenue harmonisation, and fiscal federalism in Nigeria.

The areas of discourse touched on strategic policy and administrative matters considered essential to enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and sustainability of Nigeria's revenue administration framework.

Members of the Board led by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, made the request during a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister on Wednesday 10 June 2026.

The Executive Secretary of the Board also took the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Oyedele on his appointment as Minister, appreciating him for his visionary leadership in the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and assured him of the Board's unflinching support.

Mr. Adesokan said, "we came here to celebrate our Honourable Minister. We thank you for your effort in driving the tax reforms and especially your meticulous contributions in the development of the model harmonised taxes and levies law and the Personal Income Tax Guidelines. We are so proud that you are a Nigerian. We assure you of our total support".

In his response, the Honourable Minister, Mr. Oyedele assured the Board that he is fully committed to ensure the smooth implementation of the tax reforms.

"I want to assure the Board that on our part as the Ministry of Finance, we will do the right thing in terms of compliance with the new tax laws, and we will also ensure that other MDAs comply."

The Honourable Minister told the Board that the Ministry of Finance is working on the Finance Bill to address grey areas in the new tax legislations.

Mr. Oyedele thanked JRB for the visit and assured that the Ministry will foster collaborations that will optimise the opportunities inherent in the tax reforms.

KADUNA TAX AGENCY CHAIR RECEIVES ASSOCIATION OF NON-INDIGENES SUPPORT GROUP FOR GOVERNOR UBA SANI, CONFERRED WITH GRAND PATRONSHIP

The Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Comrade Jerry Adams, FCTI, FNIM, FCE, CNA, received a delegation from the Association of Non-Indigenes Support Group for Governor Uba Sani on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening community-based tax sensitisation, promoting sub-national fiscal reforms, and fostering inclusive governance.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Jerry Adams expressed appreciation for the honour, noting that he accepted the patronage in recognition of the important role non-indigenes play in Kaduna State’s socio-economic development and reaffirming the state's commitment to inclusive governance.

Speaking on the state's fiscal performance, the Executive Chairman disclosed that monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had increased from an average of ₦4 billion in 2023 to ₦9 billion monthly, with plans to achieve ₦20 billion monthly in the future. He attributed the growth to improved taxpayer confidence resulting from visible government investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social interventions, while reiterating KADIRS’ commitment to fair and strategic tax administration that promotes compliance without harassment.

The delegation was led by Abdulsamad Chima Amadi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Support Groups, alongside the Co-Convener of the association, Mr. Johnny Nwankwere, and was received alongside members of the KADIRS management team.

Earlier in his remarks during the visit, Mr. Nwankwere formally conferred the title of Grand Patron of the association on Comrade Jerry Adams and presented him with an official letter of confirmation and the association’s flag. He described the KADIRS Chairman as a transformative leader whose reforms have significantly reduced multiple taxation and tax-related harassment, while also highlighting the association’s commitment to supporting the state's revenue objectives and grassroots mobilisation efforts across Kaduna State.

The delegation also commended Governor Senator Uba Sani for his developmental achievements, particularly the ongoing construction of vocational training centres in Soba, Rigachikun, and Samaru Kataf, and promised to mobilize massive votes for His Excellency Governor Uba Sani.
