ABIRIBA COMMUNAL IMPROVEMENT UNION AND OKADA RIDERS UNION ABIRIBA, REACHES AN UNDERSTANDING ON PRICE REGULATIONS AND ENFORCEMENT.
There has been an understanding and an agrement between the Abiriba Communal Improvement Union and the Okada riders Union in Abiriba over the high cost of internal transportation within Abiriba.
In a meeting held at Erinma Hall between the leadership of the two groups, the General President of ACIU, Chief Yuccee Uwah, expressed dissatisfaction over what he termed unhealthy exploitation of nde Abiriba by okada riders especially during yuletide. He implored the motorcycle union to be humane in their charges as their actions has brought pain to the people which led to the public outcry against them.
In his contribution, the 1st vice president of ACIU, Rtn George Ezikpe Okiyi, appreciated the leadership of the Okada union for Swiftly responding to the invitation and called for a unified bike fare within Abiriba, and to roundabout towards oronni axis. After much deliberations, the following were agreed:
1. Abiriba Town to Roundabout and environs N500 (five hundred naira)
2. Withing Abiriba town: N300 (three hundred naira)
3. Every Okada rider in Abiriba must henceforth wear an identification apron to be provided by ACIU.
4. Keke drivers and those that will come from outside Abiriba with their okada and keke must register and get their identification apron before plying in Abiriba.
5. A combined Taskforce has been put in place and empowered to impound any defaulting motorcycle or keke.
6. Bikes that carries cement, but wishes to change field this yuletide period must register and get the identification apron too.
While responding, the leaders of the okada union, Mr Eleanya Kalu, thanked the ACIU for taking out time to consult them instead of imposing their decision on them. They affirmed their readiness to work with the Taskforce to enforce and ensure strict compliance with the agreement.
The meeting came to an end with a public reading of the resolution, and verbal affirmation and endorsement of the resolution by the parties concerned.
