Throwback to memories from 2016 till date. What began as an adventure to simply encourage one victim to reclaim their voice, tell their story, own the experience and embrace healing has grown into our organization designing solutions to reimagine our society.

While we advocate against sexual violence of any kind, we are also committed to promoting a culture of sexual respect through education and community engagement; and this is our major focus for 2026.

A world where sexual respect is the norm not the exemption is possible and together we are making it happen.

A Culture That Encourages Sexual Violence and Disrespect Toward Women

Recent information has come to light, leaving many people alarmed, angry, and frustrated.

In Delta State, during a particular festival, a disturbing practice allows men to sexually assault, abuse, and degrade women without justification.

The videos circulating online are deeply unsettling. I saw men rushing to join others in violating women. My heart broke as I watched some tear at women’s clothing and drag them shamelessly in public.

Young men appeared gleeful, even triumphant, as they stripped fellow human beings of their dignity because a culture enabled them-
while no one showed compassion or stepped in to protect them.

This is not a movie.
This is a culture created by people.
This is a festival upheld by people.
This is a form of punishment that some have deemed acceptable for women.

The men in these videos are not strangers—they are brothers, fathers, uncles, siblings, and friends.

When a society normalizes such behaviour and calls it “culture,” it raises a difficult question: how can women in that environment feel safe reporting sexual harassment or abuse to authorities?

There is a lot to say about this, but it is very very very obvious that the conversation on sexual respect as a culture must be conducted - starting on a national level and then institutionalized.

Sadly, if you follow the news online and go through comment sections, you will see we have a problem in our society because the percentage of men who deemed the incident as evil are in their minority while some loudly excused the abuse, and again this goes to show how a society void of the culture of sexual respect is dangerous and harmful.

We’ve just updated our Page.

We started this movement in 2016 as Demystify Abuse Campaign, but in recent times, we have seen the need to expand our scope and improve upon what we already have and do, hence the upgrade.

We are now called Maureen Oluwatobi Foundation, and we have been officially registered as a Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria.

In the coming days, we will share our project outline for the new year. We intend to serve better and bolder as we strive to build a world where sexual respect is the norm, and survivors live whole and liberated lives.

Visit our Page to see the latest updates.

25/11/2025

As we mark the international day for the elimination of violence against women, we look back to our last school outreach where we taught the students safety and preventive measures against sexual abuse.

Together we are advocating a world where sexual respect is the norm.
