DETAILED REPORT ON THE DECORATION OF FOURTEEN DISTINGUISHED PERSONALITIES AS INTERNATIONAL DRUG-FREE/WADA AMBASSADORS
The Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, in collaboration with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World International and National Drug law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA), successfully organized the Decoration Ceremony of Fourteen Distinguished Personalities as International Drug-Free/WADA Ambassadors on Thursday, 14th May, 2026.
The prestigious event was held at Commerce House, beside Government House, by Ibara Police Divisional Headquarters, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and attracted dignitaries from different sectors of society, making it a remarkable gathering of notable personalities committed to the fight against drug abuse and societal vices.
The event was well attended by the crème de la crème of society, including traditional rulers, top government officials, health professionals, security chiefs, community leaders, youth advocates, and stakeholders in the anti-drug campaign movement. Security agencies present at the occasion included the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Forest Security Guards, Department of State Services (DSS), among others.
In his welcome and overview address, the Global President of the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP, highlighted the various drug abuse prevention initiatives and community intervention programs embarked upon by the Foundation over the years. He reiterated the Foundation’s commitment towards empowering youths, promoting public enlightenment, and building a drug-free society through strategic collaborations with relevant agencies and stakeholders.
The keynote address was delivered by the Ogun State Commander of NDLEA, CN Tijjani Rabe, who gave an insightful lecture on the increasing dangers of substance abuse, the devastating impact of illicit drugs on families and communities, and the need for collective responsibility in combating the menace. He commended the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation for its relentless efforts in complementing the activities of NDLEA through advocacy, sensitization programs, and youth engagement initiatives.
Several goodwill messages were delivered by eminent personalities at the event. His Royal Majesty, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makam Oyelude CON, Tegbosun III, applauded the organizers for championing a cause capable of securing the future of Nigerian youths. He urged traditional institutions to continue supporting anti-drug campaigns within their various communities.
Also speaking at the event, AIG Olushola Subair (Rtd), Security Adviser to the Ogun State Governor, emphasized the importance of preventive advocacy in addressing insecurity and social crimes often associated with drug abuse. The Ogun State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs. Bolanle Tiamiyu, encouraged citizens to become advocates of positive values and national reorientation.
The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), ably represented by senior officers, reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to continue supporting initiatives aimed at protecting youths from harmful substances and criminal tendencies. CP Edward Ajogun (Rtd), former Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, and Security Consultant to the Ogun State Government, also delivered a powerful goodwill message stressing the relationship between drug abuse and criminality in society.
Other distinguished guests of honour at the event included the Director, Pharmaceutical Services Department, Ogun State Ministry of Health; the President, Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Dr. Deborah Osisanwo; the Director, Community Development Department, Ogun State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives; the Security Chief, DSS Abeokuta South Local Government; and representatives of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola Otileta VII, among several other respected dignitaries from the public and private sectors.
The highpoint of the event was the decoration and presentation of plaques, Badges, certificates, Drug - free Cap & T shirts, etc to the fourteen distinguished personalities who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to humanity, youth development, community service, and advocacy towards a drug-free society. The honourees were officially decorated as International Drug-Free/WADA Ambassadors and charged to continue serving as role models and advocates against substance abuse within their spheres of influence.
As part of the awareness and sensitization campaign, educational materials including “The Truth About Drugs” booklets, Drug-Free DVDs, Educators’ Kits, and other enlightenment resources were distributed to participants to further promote drug abuse prevention and public education within the society.
