*The Story Behind Rotary*

On 23 February 1905, four professionals met in Chicago with a shared vision to create a network where people could build friendships, exchange ideas, and use their skills to serve their communities. That simple meeting became the foundation of Rotary International, one of the world's largest humanitarian organizations.

The founding members were:

One Rotary Foundation-funded project that truly inspires me is the fight against polio through the PolioPlus initiative.

For decades, the Rotary Foundation has worked alongside global partners to immunize millions of children, reducing polio cases by over 99% worldwide. What began as a bold vision has become one of the greatest public health achievements in history.

This project reminds me that even the biggest global challenges can be overcome when people unite with a shared purpose. Every child vaccinated represents a healthier future, every volunteer represents hope, and every contribution proves that service can transform lives.

As a Rotaractor, this inspires me to keep serving my community with dedication, knowing that no act of kindness or service is too small to make a lasting impact. Together, we can continue creating positive change, one project, one community, and one life at a time.

Service is most meaningful when it brings comfort, hope, and dignity to those who need it most.

The Rotaract Club of Abeokuta Royal, in collaboration with Rotaract District 9111 and our incredible partner clubs, successfully carried out our Maternal & Child Health Project through the donation of bedsheets and pillowcases to the General Hospital.

What may seem like a simple gift will provide comfort to countless mothers and newborns, creating a more welcoming and caring environment during one of life's most precious moments.

This project is a reminder that when Rotaractors unite, we don't just complete projects, we transform lives and strengthen communities.

Our sincere appreciation goes to every club, partner, donor, and volunteer whose generosity and commitment made this project a success.

As part of our commitment to creating lasting impact in our communities, the Rotary and Rotaract Club of Abeokuta Royal, in collaboration with The Matthew Jesuwunmi Legacy Foundation and JosRite Pharmacy, successfully carried out the Maternal & Child Health Project at Omida Market and its surrounding environment on Friday, 24th July 2026.

The outreach was designed to improve awareness of maternal and child health while providing essential healthcare services to traders, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and members of the public.

Activities Carried Out

💡During the outreach, beneficiaries received:

💡Free blood pressure screening.

💡Basic health checks and medical consultations.

💡Maternal and child health education.

💡Health counseling on disease prevention and healthy living.

💡Public sensitization on the importance of routine medical check-ups, antenatal care, child immunization, and proper nutrition.

💡Healthcare professionals and volunteers worked together to ensure that every beneficiary received quality attention and appropriate health information.

💡 Games to make it more lively

Impact

The project reached numerous traders, residents, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and other community members within Omida Market and its environment. Many beneficiaries who were unaware of their health status were screened and advised on appropriate next steps where necessary.

The outreach also increased public awareness about preventive healthcare and emphasized the importance of early medical intervention for mothers and children.
