Peace Corps of Nigeria, Ogun State Command
Ogun State Assembly Speaker Hosts Peace Corps Delegation, Reaffirms Commitment to School Safety and Youth Discipline, promises legislative action on the MoU.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria, Ogun State Command, yesterday Thursday 12th of February 2026 paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Olusegun Victor Elemide, as part of its sustained advocacy engagements with key stakeholders within the Ogun State Government.
The visit forms part of a series of high-level engagements by the Command aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and furthering its advocacy efforts to woo the Ogun State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to fully implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal Government and the Peace Corps of Nigeria within the Ogun State governance and security architecture.
During the meeting, the Speaker on behalf of the assembly warmly received the delegation and urged the Command to formally submit its proposals and supporting documentation to the House. He emphasized that such documentation would enable the Assembly to initiate necessary legislative actions, including the domestication of relevant national frameworks and the passage of a House Resolution for transmission to the Executive Arm of Government for onward consideration.
Rt. Hon. Elemide reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to legislative frameworks that respond to the pressing needs of communities, particularly in areas concerning youth development, school safety, and discipline in secondary schools across the State. He underscored the importance of synergy between government institutions and credible community-based organizations in fostering a secure and morally sound learning environment.
Leading the delegation, the State Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Ogun State Command, Patriot Olufemi Akinyemi, presented the Corps’ Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government. He highlighted the Corps’ core mandate, which includes promoting school safety initiatives, neighborhood watch, intelligence gathering, volunteerism services, curbing bullying and drug abuse, instilling discipline among youths, and enhancing civic responsibility across educational institutions and communities.
The Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting government efforts in youth reorientation, community service, and national development. It expressed optimism that, in the near future, the Ogun State Government will recognize and integrate the Peace Corps of Nigeria as an integral component of the State’s security and youth development architecture.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria, Ogun State Command, remains resolute in its mission to collaborate with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to build a safer, more disciplined, and progressive Ogun State.
