Strengthening Partnerships for Disability Inclusion in Ogun State

Our courtesy visit to the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Ijebu Ode marked another important step in advancing the rights and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities across Ogun State.

We were warmly received by Mrs. Disu, Deputy Director, alongside officers from the Human Rights, Education, Administration, and Persons with Disabilities Desks.

Major Highlights

- Strengthened the partnership between JONAPWD and JDPC.
- Secured a commitment to expand collaboration beyond the Ijebu axis across Ogun State.
- Agreed to work together on disability data gathering and documentation of lived experiences.
- Renewed advocacy for the gazetting and full implementation of the Ogun State Disability Law.
- Planned continuous public sensitization on disability rights and inclusion.
- Set the stage for capacity-building for JONAPWD leaders, with the first phase expected before the end of September.

This engagement reinforces our shared commitment to building an Ogun State where inclusion is intentional, rights are protected, and no Person with Disability is left behind.

OGUN JONAPWD JOINS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026 ENTREPRENEURSHIP SEMINAR IN ABEOKUTA: EMPOWERING YOUTH, WOMEN, PWDs & MSMEs

Ogun JONAPWD joined other young people, women in business, persons with disabilities (PWDs), entrepreneurs and MSMEs at the International Youth Day 2026 Entrepreneurship Seminar, organized by EDFRICA Innovation Hub in Abeokuta.

The impactful engagement provided an opportunity for participants to learn, network and gain valuable insights into entrepreneurship, digital skills, innovation, professional communication, AI and personal development.

The programme also highlighted the importance of disability inclusion and equal access to opportunities, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in the digital and entrepreneurial space.

Ogun JONAPWD appreciates EDFRICA Innovation Hub, the organisers, speakers, sponsors and partners for creating a platform that promotes skills development, entrepreneurship, inclusion and empowerment.

JONAPWD Ogun State Activities Update

Yesterday, 6th August, the leadership of JONAPWD Ogun State, led by the State Chairman, Mr. Ayo Awobona, alongside members of the State Executive Council and cluster leaders, paid courtesy visits to the Head of Service, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Adebimpe Obienu.*

Both meetings were very encouraging. Mrs. Obienu assured us of her willingness to work closely with JONAPWD and support our requests. She also made an effort to follow up on the implementation of the Ogun State Disability Law and promised to pursue the matter further.

The Head of Service also received us warmly and described our requests as genuine. He noted that implementing the Ogun State Disability Law would address most of the issues raised and directed the Permanent Secretary to liaise with the Ministry of Justice to fast-track the process. He also encouraged us to continue advocating for our rights in a peaceful and respectful manner.

We appreciate the warm reception and look forward to seeing these commitments translated into action. Together, we keep moving forward.

The State Chairman activities also extended to the media earlier in the week, as he appeared on OGTV and Splash FM Abeokuta to spotlight the activities and priorities of JONAPWD Ogun State.
