Climate change does not affect everyone in the same way.

For many women, especially those in vulnerable and frontline communities, climate challenges can mean greater economic pressure, increased care responsibilities, threats to livelihoods and fewer opportunities to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

That is why climate action must go beyond policies and commitments. It must listen to women, recognise their leadership, protect their rights and reflect the realities they face.

Climate justice isn't complete without women.

What happens when the people who shape our communities come together to make room for women? Real change begins.

On 26 August 2026, WEPBI brought together traditional rulers, government representatives, lawmakers, gender experts and civil society organisations for a Policy Co Creation and Validation Workshop on Women’s Statutory Representation in Traditional Cabinets in Enugu.

The conversation went beyond words. Stakeholders reviewed and validated a policy framework that seeks to create a clear and lasting pathway for women to have a voice and a seat at the table where community decisions are made.

Because women should not only be represented when invited. Women belong where decisions are made.

This activity was carried out under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (RWVL N) Project, fully funded by Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada, supported by ActionAid Nigeria , and implemented by WEPBI.

Let’s keep pushing for leadership spaces where women are seen, heard and meaningfully included.
