TAMBCF Celebrates the Historic Birth of Quintuplets at AEFUTHA

June 2, 2026

The Twins and Multiple Births Care Foundation (TAMBCF) joins the medical community, the people of Ebonyi State, and the nation at large in rapturous celebration following the extraordinary and successful birth of quintuplets at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AEFUTHA).

We extend our most profound and heartfelt congratulations to the proud parents, Dr. Chijioke Ogeh β€” a distinguished Consultant Pediatrician and Deputy CMAC of the hospitalβ€” and his beloved wife. After waiting for 16 years, their steadfast faith and patience have been rewarded with an incredible miracle: five beautiful babies, consisting of four boys and one girl.

This historic delivery β€” confirmed by the hospital's Chairman Medical Advisory Committee - Dr. Nelson Uchenna Nwaedu - as the very first of its kind in the facility's history β€” is a monumental achievement for the Nigerian medical community.

TAMBCF wishes to officially commend the exceptional and visionary leadership of Professor Robinson Chukwudi Onoh, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of AEFUTHA. Upon assuming office, Prof. Onoh demonstrated a bold and intentional vision to address pressing medical needs, particularly in the realm of fertility. By assembling a strategic team of specialists, his tireless efforts led directly to the establishment of the hospital's In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Centre.

Today, that foresight is bearing magnificent fruit. It is highly noteworthy that AEFUTHA stands out as the only government-owned facility in the whole of the Southeast that specializes in IVF. By offering highly affordable services and meticulously monitoring mothers from the exact moment of conception through to the safe delivery of their children, the hospital is allowing expectant parents from across the country to finally realize their dreams of parenthood. Science and technology are truly doing wonders at this facility.

This recent delivery of quintuplets builds beautifully upon the centre's proven track record of excellence, which began with the celebrated safe delivery of its first IVF babies β€” a set of triplets β€” on June 3, 2025. Following that milestone, Prof. Onoh rightly applauded the dedicated IVF team and reaffirmed AEFUTHA’s emerging role as a premier regional centre for IVF and embryo transfer. His dedication continues to expand access to modern care and bring profound joy to families long in search of hope.

We are deeply moved by the jubilation that swept through the hospital wards on Monday 1 June 2026, shifting the atmosphere from routine care to unbridled thanksgiving. Dr. Ogeh’s tearful testimony of God’s perfect timing serves as a powerful beacon of hope to countless other couples who are currently waiting for their own miracles.

As an advocacy organization dedicated to the welfare of multiple-birth households, rejoices with the Ogeh family. We pray for the continuous good health, robust growth, and prosperity of these precious five children, and for divine strength and wisdom for the parents as they embark on this unique and beautiful journey. We also celebrate for making positive history and trending for such joyous and miraculous news.

Congratulations once again to the Ogeh family, the visionary CMD Prof. Robinson Chukwudi Onoh, and the entire Aefutha medical team on this historic legacy!
