A swollen and infected appendix can sometimes burst. If this happens, the infection may spread throughout your abdomen ('tummy' area). This can lead to serious problems.

Appendicitis can happen at any age but it is most common in children and young adults

What causes appendicitis?

Appendicitis can be caused by an infection or a blockage in the appendix. The exact reason for this is not known. It is thought to happen when food or faeces (poo) gets stuck in the appendix. This blockage can cause the appendix to become swollen, inflamed and infected.

Here are the Key Causes and Risk Factors of Fibriod 👇👇👇

✅Hormonal Influence: Fibroid growth is fueled by the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. An imbalance, usually an excess of estrogen or anovulatory cycles (ovulation does not occur), promotes the abnormal growth of uterine.

✅Genetic & Ethnic Predisposition: Women of African descent, including Nigerians, are two to three times more likely to develop fibroids than Caucasian women. They often develop them at a younger age and experience larger, faster-growing tumors. Family history is also a major indicator; the risk triples if a mother or sister has a history of fibroids.

✅Lifestyle and Diet: Shifting dietary and lifestyle habits are major contributors. Diets high in red meat and low in fresh fruits and green vegetables increase the risk, while processed sugar can cause spikes in insulin that promote fibroid growth.

✅Obesity: Adipose (fat) tissue can increase estrogen production in the body. The rising rate of obesity in Nigeria directly correlates with an increased risk of developing fibroids.

✅Delayed Childbirth (Nulliparity): Pregnancy and childbirth naturally offer protective, shrinking effects on the uterus. Trends of women delaying marriage and childbirth mean the uterus is exposed to prolonged estrogen without these protective "breaks."

✅Vitamin D Deficiency: Low levels of Vitamin D are increasingly being linked to higher risks of fibroid development.
