Jaundice can lead to what is called "Kernicterus"
Read about the complications of Jaundice here.
The Complications of Jaundice – Part 2
As discussed in Part 1, jaundice is caused by the buildup of bilirubin, which leads to yellowing of the skin and eyes.
The main risk is when bilirubin crosses into the brain.
This condition is called kernicterus, and it can result in:
Poor sucking and feeding
Abnormal movements or seizures
Intellectual disability
Lifelong need for support or care
What Makes It Worse?
Ignorance: Many parents still don’t know what jaundice is or how serious it can be.

Delay in seeking care:
The longer you wait, the higher the risk.
👉 Sun exposure, glucose water, Abidec, or Ampiclox will not cure jaundice.
Only a qualified doctor, preferably a paediatrician, can tell what type of jaundice your baby has and how best to treat it.
Once brain damage sets in, it cannot be reversed.
