Yes, your baby can hear both in and out of the womb.
Hearing begins with faint sounds from inside your body around 16–22 weeks of pregnancy, and by 23 weeks, your baby can hear outside sounds.

Your little one will start to recognize your voice and may even respond to sounds with movement.

✨ This means you have the opportunity to speak positivity into your baby’s life.
✨ Your words can shape your baby’s future.

Speak to your baby, for they can hear you.

What's the significance of that first cry?

The Dangers of Weak or No Cry at Birth – Part 2

In Part 1, we saw how important a baby’s first cry is. It shows your child is breathing well, and oxygen is reaching all the organs and tissues needed to sustain life.

But what happens if a baby does not cry at birth?

🔴 Possible Dangers:
1️⃣ Risk of irreversible brain damage
2️⃣ Risk of convulsions
3️⃣ Breathing problems
4️⃣ Feeding difficulties
5️⃣ Possible kidney damage

👉 In the long run, this can lead to delayed development in the child.

💡 To reduce these risks, mothers should attend regular Antenatal Visits and ensure safe delivery practices.

The Danger of No or Weak Cry at Birth

Dear expectant mother,
There are important things you should watch out for when your baby is born — and one of the most important is your baby’s first cry.

It is expected that within the first minute of life, every newborn should have a strong, sustained cry.

That first cry is powerful — it helps your baby take in oxygen for the first time. This oxygen is then carried to all the vital organs in the body — the brain, heart, kidneys, intestines, skin, and more.

When a baby does not cry, cries weakly, or the cry is not sustained, it means the organs are not getting enough oxygen. This lack of oxygen can affect your baby’s health immediately and also cause long-term developmental problems.

Your baby’s cry is not just a sound — it’s a sign of life and strength.

📌 In Part 2, we will talk about the dangers of no cry or weak cry at birth and what can be done to help.

Jaundice can lead to what is called "Kernicterus"

Read about the complications of Jaundice here.

‎The Complications of Jaundice – Part 2

‎As discussed in Part 1, jaundice is caused by the buildup of bilirubin, which leads to yellowing of the skin and eyes.

‎The main risk is when bilirubin crosses into the brain.
‎This condition is called kernicterus, and it can result in:

‎Poor sucking and feeding

‎Abnormal movements or seizures

‎Intellectual disability

‎Lifelong need for support or care

‎What Makes It Worse?

‎Ignorance: Many parents still don’t know what jaundice is or how serious it can be.
‎(If you haven’t seen Part 1, go check it!) https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Cd3scmAys/

‎Delay in seeking care:
‎The longer you wait, the higher the risk.
‎👉 Sun exposure, glucose water, Abidec, or Ampiclox will not cure jaundice.

‎Only a qualified doctor, preferably a paediatrician, can tell what type of jaundice your baby has and how best to treat it.
‎Once brain damage sets in, it cannot be reversed.

‎---

‎Have you had a baby with jaundice?
‎What was your experience like?
‎Do you have any questions?
‎Drop them in the comments and please share this post with others who need it. Knowledge saves lives.
