World Down Syndrome Day

“Together Against Loneliness” - The theme highlights that true inclusion requires creating environments where individuals are valued, heard, and fully integrated into society—not just present.

Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 (trisomy 21), resulting in 47 chromosomes instead of 46.

Types of Screening Tests:
Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT): A blood test that detects cell-free fetal DNA, usually performed after 10 weeks of pregnancy.

First Trimester Combined Screening: Combines a blood test (for PAPP-A and hCG markers) and a Nuchal Translucency (NT) ultrasound (measuring fluid behind the baby’s neck) performed between 11 and 14 weeks.

Second Trimester Screen (Quad Screen): A blood test performed between 15 and 20 weeks that measures four substances to assess risk.

We invite corporates, schools, families, and friends to take part in our Crazy Socks Day. Simply make a donation to Side by Side via EFT, pay today or pay today, put on your most creative, colourful, mismatched socks, and show your support for children with disabilities.

Send it to us via WhatsApp or tag Side by Side on Facebook so we can celebrate together.
Your participation helps us continue providing vital early intervention services to children with disabilities and support to their families.

Across the world, people wear FUNKY SOCKS on 21 March - World Down Syndrome Day.

Because 3 copies of the 21st chromosome...21 March annually

And socks look a bit like chromosomes..

In Namibia, it's also our Independence Day. People dress us in their traditional wear and celebrate all the wonderful and diverse cultures.

At Down Syndrome Association of Namibia, we really don't care if you have celebrated the day already yesterday or today or if you are going to celebrate it tomorrow or next Friday...
What's important is that you help spread awerness!!
