The Teachers Union of Namibia (TUN) will hold a Day of Action next week to review the just-concluded agreement on salary and benefits for public servants.

The public service unions affiliated with the Trade Union Congress of Namibia (TUCNA) rejected the recently concluded collective agreement between the government and other labour unions, describing the process as unlawful and not conducted in good faith.

TUN’s take on free education

The government has committed to fully subsidising registration and tuition fees at public universities and technical colleges starting in 2026.

It has allocated N$663 million for the first quarter of 2026 to fund this roll-out. The national task force on implementing this policy has, however, not fully communicated how this would work, leaving lecturers and students worried as the new academic year looms.

Desert FM speaks to Teachers’ Union of Namibia secretary general Mahongora Kavihua for more.

📣 TUN Leads the Way in Strengthening TVET Education!

The Teachers’ Union of Namibia (TUN), in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) is currently hosting a National Workshop on TVET Leadership, Governance, and Sustainable Development at Goba Lodge, Gobabis, in the Omaheke Region. ✨

The workshop, taking place from 8–10 October 2025, brings together all TUN regional chairpersons, TVET experts and practitioners, trainers and trainees as well as representatives from the Namibian Employers Association.

This important engagement aims to:
✅ Strengthen the relevance and responsiveness of the TVET system to market demands.
✅ Allow experts to brainstorm and contribute to critical policy areas.
✅ Facilitate meaningful dialogue with key decision-makers, including the Ministry of Education and Parliament, towards much-needed policy reforms.
✅ Promote a bottom-up approach in addressing challenges within the education and TVET sectors.
✅ Develop concrete actions to mobilize and lobby policymakers for result-oriented outcomes.

TUN remains proactive and committed to driving positive change within the education and training landscape. Together, we build a stronger, skilled, and empowered Namibia! 🇳🇦✊🏽
