🌍🌿 World Environment Day | 5 June 🌿🌍

Today, we celebrate the natural world that sustains us all and reflect on our responsibility to protect it for future generations.

At the NamibRand Nature Reserve, conservation is at the heart of everything we do. From safeguarding vast desert landscapes and protecting wildlife to promoting sustainable tourism and environmental education, every effort contributes to preserving one of Namibia's most remarkable ecosystems.

This World Environment Day, we invite everyone to appreciate the beauty of nature and to take action - big or small - to help protect our planet. Together, we can ensure that these wild places continue to inspire and thrive for generations to come.

🌍 International Hyena Day | 27 April

Today we celebrate one of nature’s most misunderstood carnivores. Hyenas are intelligent, highly social, and play a vital role in keeping ecosystems healthy. As both skilled hunters and efficient scavengers, they help control prey populations and reduce the spread of disease.

At the NamibRand Nature Reserve, these remarkable animals form part of the delicate balance that keeps the desert ecosystem thriving. Protecting hyenas means protecting the health and resilience of our wild landscapes.

Let’s change the narrative and appreciate hyenas for the important role they play in nature. 🐾

🌍 Earth Day 2026 🌿

Today, we celebrate the planet we all call home and the responsibility we share to protect it. Here at the NamibRand Nature Reserve, every dune, gravel plain, mountain, and night sky reminds us how precious nature truly is.
From conserving wildlife and restoring habitats to protecting one of the world’s darkest night skies, NamibRand stands as a place where people and nature work together for a better future.
This Earth Day, let us all remember: every action matters. Protect nature, tread lightly, and help keep our planet wild for generations to come. 💚

Darkness is not the absence of light. It’s a habitat. 🦊🦇🌠

At NamibRand, we protect natural night so every animal can follow the rhythms it was born to. No interference. Just stars.

It’s International Bat Appreciation Day! 🦇✨
And it’s also International Dark Sky Week — no coincidence.

Bats depend on darkness. Here at the NamibRand Nature Reserve, our 12 recorded bat species use the natural night skies to hunt, navigate, and thrive. Artificial light fragments their habitat and makes survival harder.

As an International Dark Sky Reserve, we protect the dark night sky for all creatures — big and small.

This April 17, celebrate bats by choosing DarkSky Approved Lighting and help keep nights truly dark 🌌

When we save the stars, we save the bats too!

It’s International Dark Sky Week! 🌌✨

Here at NamibRand, darkness is something we protect. And education is how we keep it that way.

Meet our secret weapon: NaDEET, the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust 💡
NaDEET is the educational core of our Dark Sky Reserve, teaching kids and adults across Namibia why dark skies matter for wildlife, culture, and our connection to the cosmos.

This week, we’re celebrating starlight, not streetlight. Because every child deserves to see the Milky Way 🌠

Learn with NaDEET. Protect the night with NamibRand.

Look up 🌌✨ We’ve got bragging rights!

NamibRand Nature Reserve was officially certified as a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve — by the International Dark Sky Association 🌍

Why it matters:
- Gold Tier = the darkest and strictest category available. We were only the 2nd place on Earth to earn it back in May 2012
- First in Africa and first in any developing nation to receive IDSR status

Our night skies aren’t just dark — they’re world-class. No light pollution, just the Milky Way in all its glory 🌠

Come experience what true darkness looks like.
