The Capricorn Foundation is proud of its partnership with the Wolwedans Foundation in building a resilient, desert-based economy through the Rural Revive initiative. We therefore celebrate the Rural Revive Initiative receiving Gold in the Regenerative Tourism Category at the WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards 2026. This recognition stands as a testament to the power of purpose-driven partnerships and community-led impact rooted at the grassroots level. Congratulations to all involved, and may this be one of many milestones in reaching our collective objectives.

Rural Revive, an initiative of the Wolwedans Foundation’s AridEden Vision 2030, has been awarded gold in the Regenerative Tourism category at the WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards 2026, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The recognition places the Namibia-based project among the continent’s leading tourism initiatives and secures its qualification for the Global Responsible Tourism Awards scheduled for London in September 2026.

The awards honoured 22 organisations from 13 countries, highlighting efforts to build a tourism industry that delivers measurable benefits for communities, environments and local economies.

Rural Revive’s “Building a Desert-Based Economy Initiative” focuses on transforming livelihoods around Maltahöhe by linking tourism more directly with local economic activity. The programme promotes climate-appropriate horticulture, supports small enterprises and introduces circular systems aimed at strengthening food security and income generation in a fragile arid environment.

The Capricorn Foundation donated sanitary pads valued at N$80,000 to the Response Action Based Organization (RABO) to support women and schoolgirls in vulnerable communities with essential menstrual care.

The Foundation procured the pads from K’Negongo Foundation, a local sanitary pads manufacturer. By improving access to hygiene products, this initiative helps protect dignity, build confidence, and promote better menstrual health.

Access to sanitary pads is also key to keeping girls in school by reducing the impact of period poverty. Together, we’re working to remove barriers to learning so girls can attend class with comfort and confidence and participate fully at school and in their communities.

Thank you to RABO who will distribute the pads on behalf of the Foundation.

Together with Meerkat Learning, the Capricorn Foundation is helping more children in the Kunene Region build strong reading and maths skills.
Our support for the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) programme now reaches 1,200 learners and 200 teachers, with 15 schools taking part in 2026 and a new TaRL–NAMCOL Holiday Camp for out of school youth.

The results speak for themselves: at Jack Francis Primary School, innumeracy dropped from 75% to 21%, and learners in nomadic community schools improved division level skills by up to 41%. Many schools saw 20–50 percentage point gains in basic maths. Let’s keep building brighter futures, one learner at a time.
