Meet Lize Dames: Creating Without Rules at NOMAD!
On the 2nd of May, NOMAD Home of the Arts welcomes creative facilitator Lize Dames for a hands on Mixed Media Workshop. A
relaxed, exploratory session designed for anyone curious about making art.
We caught up with Lize ahead of the workshop to find out what participants can expect.
What can people expect from your Mixed Media Workshop?
"It’s really about creating without pressure," Lize says. "No experience is needed. It’s a space where you can just explore and enjoy the process."
For someone new to art, what exactly is ‘mixed media’?
"Mixed media simply means combining different materials into one artwork," she explains. "Instead of sticking to one technique, you get to play with paint, drawing, collage, printing, whatever speaks to you, and see how it all comes together."
What will be available on the day?
"I’ll have a full creative table set up," Lize shares. "Acrylic paint, watercolours, charcoal, pastels, collage materials, fabric, printing tools, even stencil-making supplies. It’s all about layering, experimenting, and building something that feels personal."
What drives your approach as an artist?
"My work grew from a fascination with connection, the quiet intelligence beneath the surface of things," she says. "Each piece becomes a reflection of transformation."
She adds, "Working with fluid mediums like watercolour is about balance—what you control and what you allow to happen. That’s where the magic is."
