Trans activists from Diverse Movement, alongside family and friends of S*xy Fredericks, gathered today at the Windhoek High Court for the pre-trial hearing.
S*xy’s case—a trans woman brutally murdered in 2024 following the passage of anti-LGBTQI+ bills by Parliament—is a painful reminder of the urgent need for protections for trans and gender-diverse people in Namibia.
These anti-LGBTQI+ laws have sent a dangerous message of impunity across the country, effectively greenlighting violence, hate, and discrimination. S*xy should be here today. Yet, even in her death, her identity as a trans woman continues to be overlooked in the legal process.
We call on Parliament to acknowledge and undo the harm caused by these laws and to pass the Ombudsman’s proposed hate crimes legislation.
S*xy’s case has been postponed to 28 April.
Together, as a community, we will continue to stand, to fight, and to demand justice. Justice for S*xy. Justice for all. 🏳️⚧️🇳🇦🏳️⚧️
