Remember these two?

A while ago, we asked you to help us find names for our rather elusive gentlemen.

Well, we did our homework. We tried the suggestions. We called, we repeated, we waited.

Nothing.

Not a twitch of a whisker. Not so much as the courtesy of looking in our direction.

Until we tried 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸 & 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄.

A blink!

Admittedly, not a standing ovation, but in the world of feral cats, we’ll take what we can get. 😹

And here’s the interesting part: our colony cats really do learn to recognise their names. Some come when called. Some come eventually. And some clearly believe that responding is entirely optional.

As for Jack & Sparrow?

𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗞𝗜𝗗 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗞. 🐾

Meet Newbee.

Well, that’s what we’re calling our latest arrival for now. We haven’t been formally introduced, and Newbee doesn’t seem particularly interested in changing that. 😼

We’ve been spotting this unfamiliar face more and more often around the colony. Still shy, still keeping a safe distance, but apparently beginning to feel quite at home.

Which means there’s one rather important appointment we need to arrange.

𝗔 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗴𝗲.

Not exactly Newbee’s idea of a warm welcome, perhaps, but an essential first step towards getting this newcomer checked by a vet and sterilised.

Until then, we’ll keep watching, waiting and trying to earn a little trust.

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗯𝗲𝗲.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗧𝗬. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦. 🥂🐾

Well, that was rather lovely!

Madame Purrsecco made her debut at Gellert Wines on Saturday, and judging by the photographs, a sparkling good time was had by all.

A beautifully laid table, delicious food, excellent company and just enough bubbly to make a Saturday morning feel like a special occasion.

And the best part? All in the name of helping Swakopmund’s feral cats. Who, incidentally, have absolutely no idea how sophisticated their fundraising department has become. 😼

A huge thank you to 𝗚𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 for their wonderful hospitality and for generously donating a w**e tasting experience. Congratulations to 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬, our lucky winner!

And to our fabulous guests: thank you for coming, for your generosity and for making our very first 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘄𝘀 such a pleasure.

Tomorrow is the big day!

Madame Purrsecco is preparing to welcome her guests, the bubbly is chilling, and Adolfo has dressed for the occasion.

Impeccable tuxedo. Perfectly groomed. Not a whisker out of place.

Just one tiny problem.

𝗛𝗲’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁. 🙀

And Madame, as we all know, is fully booked.

We’ve shown you the less glamorous side of Cat City before.

But even here, among the rubble and discarded odds and ends, there’s room for a little luxury.

A sunny spot. A quiet afternoon. Absolutely nothing on the agenda.

The accommodation may be questionable, the neighbours unpredictable, and room service only arrives three evenings a week.

But these two gentlemen seem entirely unbothered.

𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗞𝗚 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗔 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛.

Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it?

Until you do the maths. 🐾

An average adult cat needs roughly 𝟱𝟬–𝟲𝟬 𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆 — depending, of course, on its size, age, activity level and the food itself.

For our approximately 𝟭𝟴𝟬 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 that would mean around 𝟮𝟳𝟬–𝟯𝟮𝟱 𝗸𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 if we were able to provide a full daily ration.

We currently manage about 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗸𝗴 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 spread across our six colonies and feeding rounds 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸.

In other words: 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲. 😼

What we provide is a helping hand — enough to make a real difference, but still very much the bare minimum.

And judging by the speed at which those bowls are emptied, our customers would be delighted to discuss an increase in catering. 😹🐾

Our brand-new Swakopmund Feral Cats donation boxes are ready to go out into the world — and now comes the important question:

We’re looking for a few cat-friendly businesses, shops, cafés, restaurants or other busy little corners around Swakopmund that would be happy to give one of our boxes a home.

Somewhere people pass by. Somewhere a few coins can quietly add up. Somewhere our approximately 180 ferals can collect a little help without having to ask quite as nicely as they usually do. 😼
