𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲. 🤍🐾

Today, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Cool Cats Namibia for their incredibly generous donation of cat food to the Swakop Feral Cats.

Caring for approximately 180 cats across several colonies in and around Swakopmund is a responsibility that never takes a day off.

The colonies are fed three times a week to help them cope with life outdoors and to ensure they remain healthy, particularly during the cold winter months along the coast.

Thanks to the support of Cool Cats Namibia, we can breathe a little easier this month.

What you see in these photographs is more than cat food.

It is support.
It is reassurance.
It is knowing that hundreds of bowls can be filled during the weeks ahead.

From all four volunteers — and from a great many grateful cats — thank you, Cool Cats Namibia, for your kindness and generosity.

Every act of support, no matter how large or small, helps us continue caring for the forgotten ones. 🤍

𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗦 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗦. 🐾

As many businesses are experiencing, rising fuel prices affect transport costs too.

For many years, Summit Sales kindly delivered cat food to the coast free of charge. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible.

That is where 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 stepped in.

By offering a reduced transport rate, they are helping ensure that food continues to reach the approximately 180 cats we care for across several colonies in Swakopmund.

Sometimes support does not come in the form of food donations.

Sometimes it comes in the form of people willing to help behind the scenes.

𝗖𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗛𝗔𝗦 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗗𝗢𝗢𝗥𝗦 🐾

Less than 24 hours after completion, the first residents have already moved in.

No paperwork.
No waiting list.
No rental agreement.

Just a warm, dry place to sleep during the cold months ahead.

For cats living at the dumpsite, that makes all the difference.

𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗖𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬. 🐾

As winter slowly approaches the coast, one of our volunteers decided that waiting for better shelter wasn’t an option.

So she built it herself.

At the dumpsite, where there is almost no natural protection from the elements, she spent days clearing and levelling the ground, filling the shelters with hay, adding ceilings and covering them with plastic sheeting for insulation.

A one-woman mission.

With the kind support of Johannes, the security guard, who helped make it possible.

What many people don’t realise is that there is no official organisation behind the Swakop Feral Cats. No office. No paid staff. No dedicated funding.

Just four volunteers.

And projects like this happen because one person decides that the cats deserve better and is willing to put in the work.

This winter, dozens of cats will have a warmer, drier place to sleep because of that decision.

Beauty & Diana trying their best to remain professional… while Beatle has already shoved half her face through the fence to investigate absolutely everything.

Current colony investigations include:
• who arrived
• whether food is involved
• and general public holiday activity around town

The Swakop Feral Cats take neighbourhood surveillance duties very seriously

And yes — the ferals are Namibians too.

Born between Atlantic fog, dumpsites and the rough edges of coastal life.

Not officially counted.
Not celebrated.
Mostly unseen.

And yet they are part of the rhythm of this town too.

This Africa Day weekend, we would especially like to thank Sibylle for her incredibly generous donation towards the Swakop Feral Cats. 🤍🐾

With rising transport costs and winter slowly approaching the coast, kindness like this carries more weight than people may realise.

So perhaps this weekend’s message is simple:

Be like Sibylle.

Compassion matters.
Especially for the forgotten ones waiting quietly at the edge of town.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆. 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲.

A few bricks.
A sheet of plastic.

And somehow… still a home.

People often ask where the Swakop Feral Cats actually live.

Not behind pretty fences or on soft blankets.
Many survive between rubble, tyres, broken concrete and whatever shelter can be improvised against the coastal wind.

And yet every evening, they gather.
The same faces. The same careful routines. Waiting for food, warmth and safety — however fragile that safety may sometimes be.

This is only one of several colonies currently under our care around Swakopmund.
Some larger. Some almost invisible. All dependent on consistency.

Which is why the recent increase in transport costs worries us deeply. Losing even two bags of food a month is not “just two bags” out here.

It means thinner portions.
More stretching.
More worrying how to make it to month end.

But for tonight, the little shelter is full again. 🤍🐾

𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆

For years, Summit kindly delivered food to the coast free of charge — a gesture that quietly kept many bowls filled. With transport costs increasing, that arrangement is unfortunately no longer possible.

For the Swakop Feral Cats, this means we immediately lose the equivalent of at least two bags of food every single month — food we urgently need for the colonies under our care.

And the cats, of course, do not understand fuel prices, logistics or transport costs.
They simply wait for familiar footsteps. For dinner. For routine. 🐾

If anyone would like to help us bridge this gap — whether through food donations, transport assistance or contributions towards deliveries — it would make an enormous difference right now.

Especially as winter slowly begins to settle over the coast.

Food drop-offs can still be made at Swakop Optics and every bit truly helps.
