Ecosystem functioning and services are centred on fertile soils. Without them, there would be no good vegetation for animals to graze and browse on, and humans would be unable to produce food.

Omatele OvaZimba/OvaDhimba/OvaZemba etjiulu!

Demonstration: Over 400 OvaZemba youth raised awareness of the unrecognised OvaZemba Traditional Authority, neglected by Namibia’s government for 34 years, and submitted a petition to the President on 15.11.2024 in Windhoek.

Namibia’s Traditional Authorities Act of 2000 entitles every community to establish a traditional authority. Despite the Ovazemba community establishing and endorsing their own traditional authority, consisting of the Chief and Senior Traditional Councillors in accordance with customary laws and the act, the government has not yet recognised the same. Although numerous applications have been submitted, no positive response has been received.
