Centre volunteer Jennifer launched a book club this year with 16 learners of the Centre, fostering a love for reading. To celebrate their dedication and hard work, the group was treated to a day at Crocodile Farm Otjiwarongo. Along with presenting reports on their book, the children took part in a guided tour, held a baby croc and enjoyed an afternoon meal!

A big thank you to Otjiwarongo MUN , Croc Farm and Jennifer for helping make this trip a reality!

A sincere thank you to Old Mutual Namibia Foundation for the generous donation to the Otjiwarongo Multi-Purpose Help Centre. This support will go directly towards strengthening our digital lab, improving access to digital literacy and helping us create better opportunities for the children and the youth.

Old Mutual Foundation supports Otjiwarongo Multi Purpose Help Centre with essential educational and office resources

The Old Mutual Foundation, through its Executive Discretionary Fund, has provided essential educational and office resources valued at N$24 812.53 to the Otjiwarongo Multi Purpose Help Centre (OMPHC), strengthening the Centre’s ability to support vulnerable children and families in the Otjiwarongo community.

The handover was made on behalf of the Old Mutual Foundation by Old Mutual Namibia Group Chief Operating Officer, Logan Fransman, as part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment and social development.

The donation comprised a range of practical equipment and stationery, including office furniture, a multifunction business printer, printer cartridges, copy paper, whiteboards, binding materials, and heavy-duty office tools such as staplers and paper punches. These items will directly support the Centre’s administrative, educational, and daily operational needs.

The Otjiwarongo Multi-Purpose Help Centre has been operating since 2003 and provides critical services such as daily meals, educational support, school uniforms, counselling services, hygiene programmes, and community awareness initiatives for orphans, vulnerable children, and struggling families.

Speaking at the handover, Fransman said the contribution reflects Old Mutual’s belief in empowering organisations that deliver tangible impact at grassroots level. “The Otjiwarongo Multi-Purpose Help Centre plays an important role in supporting vulnerable members of the community. Through the Old Mutual Foundation’s Executive Discretionary Fund, we are pleased to contribute resources that will help strengthen the Centre’s day to day operations and enhance the support it provides to children and families,” said Fransman.

He added that meaningful partnerships with community-based organisations are essential to creating sustainable social impact.

“By supporting organisations that are deeply rooted in their communities, we are investing in long term resilience and helping to create environments where dignity, care, and opportunity can thrive,” he said.

The Old Mutual Foundation continues to focus on initiatives that promote education, health, and social development across Namibia, with a strong emphasis on practical interventions that deliver lasting community benefit.

💕What a great day with some of the parents/guardians of children from the Centre. We brought our tools to the playground and worked to make it a cleaner and safer place for the children to play. We are always deeply grateful when members of the community give back to the Centre. Thank you for your support!

Shining Stars Academy Marches to Support OMPHC

This morning, the learners of Shining Stars Academy, accompanied by their teachers and Principal Vongai Mutimba, marched from their school to the Otjiwarongo MUN Head Office carrying donations of canned and dry food, and second-hand clothes.

The march, involving around 100 children, was a colourful and energetic display of community spirit, reflecting the school’s inspiring slogan: “One can a day can make a difference.” It showcased their commitment to teaching the values of service, empathy, and compassion from a young age.

Upon arrival, the donations were formally handed over to Her Worship Deputy Mayor, Julienda Kampungu, who expressed her gratitude for the generosity and effort of the learners and staff. "This generous donation will directly support vulnerable children in our town, providing essential food and clothing to improve their daily lives" she said.

Today’s event was a lesson in empathy, responsibility, and community engagement, showing that even the youngest members of Otjiwarongo can make a meaningful impact.

We encourage all residents, businesses, and community members to follow their example and contribute to the Otjiwarongo Multi-Purpose Help Centre. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

We thank Shining Stars Academy and their learners for their dedication and for setting such a strong example of caring for others.

We were fortunate to host representatives from NANSO, who led an informative and empowering talk on menstrual health and overall hygiene. The session encouraged our girls to take pride in their well-being and helped break the silence around an important topic that affects so many young women.

We appreciate NANSO for taking the time to share knowledge and practical tips that promote confidence and self-care.
