The Omaruru Children’s Haven is a government registered residential child-care facility in Omaruru, Namibia, and currently home for 34 children and five housemothers.

We are happy that our new volunteers have arrived, who brought new ideas and fill our holidays with different activities for the children. This week, we headed into the Omaruru riverbed for a treasure hunt. Between rocks, sand and bushes, we followed one clue after another until the treasure was finally found.

Wir freuen uns, wieder neue Volontär:innen bei uns im Haven zu haben, die mit neuen Ideen und verschiedenen Aktivitäten unser Ferienprogramm gestalten. Diese Woche ging es für eine Schatzsuche ins Flussbett des Omarurus. Zwischen Steinen, Sand und Büschen folgten wir einem Hinweis nach dem anderen, bis wir endlich den Schatz gefunden haben.

Thanks to the generous support of Namibia Kids e.V., we are excited to welcome two new washing machines. They make a huge difference to our daily routine and help us keep up with the never-ending laundry for our children. And the children found the best part of all: the packaging instantly turned into superhero capes. 🦸🏾‍♂️ What a great reminder: With a little imagination, the greatest adventures begin. 💫

Dank der großzügigen Unterstützung von Namibia Kids e.V. dürfen wir uns über zwei neue Waschmaschinen freuen. Sie erleichtern unseren Alltag enorm und helfen uns, die Wäsche unserer Kinder zuverlässig zu bewältigen.
Und wie das bei Kindern so ist: Während wir die neuen Waschmaschinen gefeiert haben, wurde das Verpackungsmaterial kurzerhand zum Superhelden-Umhang. 🦸🏾‍♂️ Was für eine schöne Erinnerung: Mit ein bisschen Fantasie entstehen die schönsten Abenteuer. 💫

What a day. 🤩
Yesterday we officially opened our new playground and the moment it was declared open, the children took off! They were climbing, sliding, swinging, laughing and so much fun. One child looked at us and said: “It’s like holiday.” We couldn’t have said it better. A huge thank you to Lilli e.V. for gifting our children such a special place. A huge thank you as well to West Coast Welding & Fabrication for their excellent work and dedication in bringing this playground to life.

Was für ein Tag. 🤩 Gestern haben wir unseren neuen Spielplatz offiziell eröffnet und in dem Moment, als er freigegeben wurde, gab es kein Halten mehr! Die Kinder kletterten, rutschten, schaukelten, lachten und hatten einfach unendlich viel Spaß. Ein Kind meinte:„Es ist wie Urlaub.“ Schöner hätten wir es nicht ausdrücken können.
Ein riesiges Dankeschön an Lilli e.V., die unseren Kindern mit diesem besonderen Ort eine so große Freude geschenkt haben.

Study Time has been an important part of our daily routine. It was previously led by our intentional volunteers, but when they were unable to travel to Namibia due to the current visa situation, we suddenly faced a major challenge. Thankfully, two wonderful women from our local community stepped in and generously gave their time and hearts to our children. Every afternoon, they support our children in small groups with reading, maths and homework, offering patience, encouragement and individual attention. Today, we simply can’t imagine our team without them. 💛
We would love to provide them with a small monthly allowance and kindly ask for your support in keeping this valuable programme alive while investing in local commitment and the education of our children.

Die Study Time ein fester und wichtiger Bestandteil in unserem Alltag. Bisher wurde sie von unseren internationalen Volontärinnen und Volontären begleitet. Als diese aufgrund der aktuellen Visasituation nicht nach Namibia reisen konnten, standen wir plötzlich vor einer großen Herausforderung. Zum Glück haben zwei engagierte Frauen aus Omaruru ihre Herzen und ihre Zeit geöffnet. Seitdem begleiten sie unsere Kinder jeden Nachmittag in kleinen Gruppen beim Lesen, Rechnen und Lernen. Sie sind aus unserem Team nicht mehr wegzudenken. 💛 Gerne möchten wir ihnen eine kleine Aufwandsentschädigung zahlen und bitte hier um Eure Hilfe dieses wertvolle Angebot langfristig zu sichern und lokales Engagement zu unterstützen

It’s Harvest Time… 🍊 Our grapefruit tree is spoiling us again! There is something special about watching food grow and sharing the harvest together. Fresh vitamins for winter and homemade jam.

Unser Grapefruitbaum verwöhnt uns wieder mit einer reichen Ernte! Es ist etwas Besonderes, Früchte wachsen zu sehen und sie dann gemeinsam zu ernten und zu genießen. Frische Vitamine für den Winter und selbstgemachte Marmelade.

Tuesdays are therapy days at the Haven 🧩🧸

Two of our children attend occupational therapy once a week and step by step, we are witnessing beautiful progress. Small steps are turning into growing confidence, development, joy along the way. At Haven, we believe in a holistic approach and in giving our children the support and tools they need to truly thrive.
We are grateful for the wonderful cooperation with Omaruru Occupational Therapy.

Dienstage sind Therapietage 🧩🧸

Zwei unserer Kinder besuchen einmal pro Woche die Ergotherapie und Schritt für Schritt dürfen wir wunderschöne Fortschritte miterleben. Kleine Schritte verwandeln sich in wachsendes Selbstvertrauen, Freude und neue Erfolgserlebnisse.
Wir sind überzeugt von einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz und finden es wichtig unseren Kindern die Unterstützung und Werkzeuge zu geben, die sie brauchen um sich bestmöglich entfalten zu können.
Wir sind dankbar für die tolle Zusammenarbeit mit der Omaruru Occupational Therapy Praxis.

Grateful once again for the support from Safari Car Rental and their kind customers who thought of us.
We regularly receive donations from travelers before they head home. Items that are still so valuable for our Haven family: spices, canned food, groceries, toilet paper, plastic containers, garbage bags, clothing, shoes, pillows, blankets and so much more. Often, it is the small everyday things that make the biggest difference.

The past days our children have been quietly busy preparing Mother’s Day surprises. ✂️ Each house turned into a little card-making workshop. Paper, glitter, scissors, colour pencils everywhere and children creating with so much thought and love. The older ones guided the younger ones, while little secrets were carefully kept from the housemothers. The atmosphere was truly special and beautiful to witness. The cards became a true reflection of the love, care and warmth the children receive every single day. Cards and presents dedicated to the women who comfort, guide, cook, listen, discipline, encourage, wipe tears, celebrate victories and give so much of themselves so freely. We are deeply grateful for our housemothers. ❤️

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers and mother figures who make children feel safe, seen and deeply loved.
