GIRLS BENEFIT FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION KITS IN MECANHELAS DISTRICT
On Friday, March 13, the distribution of physical education kits to girls in the Mecanhelas district began, as part of the implementation of the “She Belongs in School” project, an initiative aimed at promoting girls’ continued participation in the education system.
In this first phase, 17 girls from various schools in the town of Insaca received the physical education kits, out of a total of 51 students who are expected to benefit throughout the process.
The initiative aims to ensure better conditions for girls’ participation in school activities, particularly in physical education classes, while also supporting students in vulnerable situations and reinforcing their continued attendance at school.
On the occasion, Nazário Hugo Mucotiua, Director of Namicopo Basic School, one of the institutions benefiting from the project, highlighted the importance of the initiative, emphasizing that actions like this help strengthen the learning process and encourage students to continue their studies.
Meanwhile, Merino Muapassa, a technician from the Mecanhelas District Service of Education, Youth, and Technology, urged the girls not to give up on school, stating that education is the safest path to building a better future. He also encouraged the students to value the opportunity and remain committed to achieving their academic goals.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sidónia Moisés Paulo, one of the students who received the kits, expressed her gratitude and called for the continuation and expansion of the project to more schools in the district, so that a larger number of girls can benefit from the initiative.
Through this action, the “She Belongs in School” project, led by Save the Children and implemented in the district by United Purpose, with funding from the Government of Canada, strengthens efforts to promote inclusive education, encourages girls to stay in school, and contributes to reducing the barriers that still limit access and full participation of girls in the education system.
