SWAA is a pioneering, non-profit, non-governmental women’s organization created by visionary African women while attending the 4th International HIV & AIDS Conference in Stockholm, Sweden in June 1988. Right at the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the founders of SWAA predicted that due to gender inequalities and challenging socio-cultural environments, African women would be the central victim

s of the epidemic.SWAA-Mozambique (SWAA-Moz) was legally established in April 2002.The membership to the Organisation is open and currently made up by women and men who agree with the principles of the organisation, and are willing to take part in fighting against HIV & AIDS now! The vision of the organisation is a world free from HIV & AIDS where African women and children are empowered and enjoy equal rights to healthcare and socio-economic opportunities.The slogan of the organisation is “Together We Shall Win!”

Our Story

SWAA-Moz (Society for Women and AIDS in Africa - Mozambique) is a mozambican Non-Governmental, non-profit, women-led Organization created in 2001 and legally registered on 2 April 2002. Membership to SWAA-Moz is open and is made-up of all women and men who agree with the principles of the organization and are willing to take part in the fight against HIV & AIDS, Gender Based Violence, Child Marriages and Gender Inequality and promote Human and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights now! The Vision of the organisation is ‘‘a world free of HIV & AIDS where African women and children are empowered to claim equal rights to healthcare, education and socio-economic opportunities’’.

The Mission is ‘‘to advocate for the fight against HIV & AIDS, women’s rights, eliminating discrimination against women including Gender Based Violence, advancing women’s capacities and leadership skills, promoting women’s participation in decisions that affect their lives, and amplifying their voices for gender equality related issues’’. The slogan of the Organization is “Together We Shall Win!”
