Sunway College students under Ms. Celine’s Community service class, collaborated with USJ9 Kebun Kommunity members and embarked on a purposeful activity on 28/9/2023, a public holiday on Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. They transforming the overgrown wilderness of the USJ9 Community Garden into a tranquil urban oasis, all under the guidance of Ms. Kathy.
As they rolled up their sleeves, students delved into the world of flora, honing their skills in distinguishing the valuable from the unwanted plants, when they cleared the garden of weeds. Amidst the greenery, they planted the seeds of knowledge, nurturing curry leaves and papaya trees that would bear the fruits of their labour for the community in the future. This day was far from ordinary; it was an immersive experience in nature’s classroom. In this hidden corner of nature, students encountered rarely-seen creatures in their life like frogs and snails, gaining an understanding of their environment and the delicate balance of life within it.
The activity in the USJ9 Community Garden was not just about gardening; it was about nurturing minds, fostering appreciation for nature, and cultivating skills that will serve these students well beyond the boundaries of the garden itself.
