This year’s ASM–CAS–IAAust Seminar, jointly organised by the ASM, the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Institute of Actuaries Australia, was held on 10 & 11 August 2026 at Le Meridien Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The seminar covered a broad spectrum of topics, including a keynote address of futuristic topic of flying cars, ESG, AI, RBC2, IFRS 17, healthcare, and professionalism. It also featured discussions on actuarial leadership, with dedicated sessions on women in insurance and perspectives from CEOs.

A heartfelt thank you to our speakers for generously sharing their knowledge and expertise, and to all participants for their active involvements and meaningful discussions throughout the seminar. ASM Webinar Series 2026]: Reimagine Health and Risk: From Food as Medicine to Food as Underwriting

Presented by Si Xie, FSA FCIA CERA and Jason Alleyne, FSA, FCIA from an insurtech startup that reimagines risk and underwriting.

Dietary and lifestyle trends in Asia suggest that historical incidence rates for metabolic diseases may underestimate future claims, particularly among affluent urban populations. This session shares the research results on proprietary research the progression of insulin level and insulin resistance after 1 month of different dietary patterns and to develop a protocol that is affordable and scalable for general population. It will then explore methodologies that leverage continuous lifestyle monitoring and how to translate lifestyle data into product design, pricing and customer journey.

ASM Tri-Sport: Bowling Tournament 2026

The ASM Tri-Sport Bowling Tournament 2026 was a fantastic evening of friendly competition, laughter and team spirit!

Held on 8 August at Sunway Mega Lanes, the actuarial community had a fun break from the usual work routine — with plenty of strikes, spares and memorable moments along the way.

ASM Teaching Conference 2026

On 26 June 2026, the Actuarial Society of Malaysia (ASM) hosted its inaugural Teaching Conference 2026, bringing together academics from 11 of Malaysia higher education institutions alongside industry professionals.

The conference provided a platform to exchange insights on advancing actuarial education and strengthening academia–industry collaboration. Key discussions covered best practices in actuarial teaching, innovative learning approaches, industry developments in Catastrophe Modelling, Medical & Health Insurance/Takaful, and Risk-Based Capital 2 (RBC 2), as well as strategies to better prepare students for the evolving workplace.

The event reinforced a shared commitment to developing future actuaries with strong technical, communication, and adaptive skills to thrive in an increasingly dynamic and AI-driven environment.

ASM extends heartfelt appreciation to Taylor’s University as co‑sponsor, and to all speakers, participants, and student volunteers for making this milestone event a success.
