Highland Games are events held throughout the year in Scotland and other countries as a way of celebrating Scottish and Celtic culture and heritage, especially that of the Scottish Highlands. Certain aspects of the games are so well known as to have become emblematic of Scotland, such as the bagpipes, the kilt and the heavy events, especially the caber toss. While centred on competitions in piping

and drumming, dancing, and Scottish heavy athletics, the Games also include entertainment and exhibits related to other aspects of Scottish and Gaelic culture.

Burns Night at the Four Seasons Hotel in KL on 31st January was a fantastic event and a great way to meet friends, old and new.

The food was wonderful, drinks were flowing, the speeches were very entertaining, songs from Vox Suara Choir were exquisite, the pipes & drums of St. John’s Alumni Pipe Band both stirring and sing-a-longable, and then there was some fun Scottish country dancing to work it all off!

Burns Night is approaching - have you got your tickets? Join us for an immersive evening of all things Scottish! Try some tasty haggis, neeps & tatties as part of the delicious 4-course dinner, while being serenaded by beautiful voices performing traditional Scottish ballads. Be entertained and amused by a lively rendition of Rabbie Burns’ famous poetry - brought to us this year by renowned Burns impersonator Chris Tait. Wash it all down with copious freeflow wine and beer, plus a bottle of whisky on the table, which should get everyone in the mood for a bit of energetic Scottish country dancing to round off a great night oot!

Join us for a fab evening with Rabbie Burns, as you’ve never seen him before! Details below:

Selangor St. Andrew's Society (SSAS) is delighted to share the wonderful news that we donated RM33,000 from funds raised during the Annual Inter-Society Golf Tournament 2025 to Lighthouse Children Welfare Home Association, so that an array of solar panels could be installed on the roof of one of their houses.

Carol Wallace as Chieftain, accompanied by committee members Donna Millar, Alan Wallace and Lisa Ingram, visited the house to view the newly completed system and met with Jacinta Steven, the co-founder (with her husband) of Lighthouse.

They have in the past often struggled to meet electricity bills amounting to many thousands of Ringgit, as this was one of the biggest expenses they faced every month, and SSAS has on occasion stepped in to help and make sure they would not be disconnected.

Lighthouse operates two houses where the boys sleep, as well as this main property for the girls, which is also the gathering place for activities and where meals are made and served for over 50 children every day. Jacinta confirmed a huge financial burden has been lifted from them by having a permanent solution for most of their power needs - now that these are being met using clean, renewable energy, generated on-site.

So a big Thank You goes out to everyone who sponsors and attends SSAS events! It is your support and involvement that has allowed us to make such a valuable and long-lasting difference in our local community 🙏😃

A great night was had by all who attended the annual St. Andrew's Celebration on Saturday 29th November 2025, hosted by the Committee of Selangor St. Andrew's Society ("SSAS").

Our top table in the Ballroom at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel was graced by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Ajay Sharma CMG, who kindly got proceedings underway by leading the guests in making the loyal toasts.

The delicious 4-course dinner naturally included a generous serving of traditional haggis, neeps & tatties, but only after a groaning trencher of said haggis was ceremonially marched in by the haggis bearers, to the stirring sound of St. John's Alumni Pipe Band, who also perfomed for us later during the meal.

Then it was the turn of 2025/26 SSAS Chieftain, Carol Wallace, to give a spirited rendition of the Address to the Haggis, with some very enthusiastic wielding of the largest sgian dubh (Scottish knife) ever to lurk in a sock!

ASEAN St. Andrew's Society & RIO Investment Club, our sponsors for the evening, gave away a platinum coin valued at US$1,500 to the lucky winner of their prize draw, which was followed by our own raffle draw that incorporated a host of great prizes.

A couple of happy shoppers also each left with a carpet purchased from Great Eastern Carpets, who had set up a lovely display in the foyer.

Then our glamorous guests took to the floor for some lively Scottish Country Dancing, with fantastic music (and extremely helpful dancing directions) provided by Clappy Doo - our favourite ceilidh band - all the way from Bonnie Scotland!

Lots of skipping and twirling, stepping and birling made for loads of fun and a good workout too! Until next year...

The KL Highland Games 10th Anniversary Edition on 20th September 2025 was a rip-roaring success😃
And speaking of success, here are the results of all the competitions on the field, along with a selection of photos to show the skill/effort/good fun involved! 💪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏆🥇🥈🥉

We had a new event this year - The Barrel Race, open to all and a lot of laughs!

As well as the events listed in the tables of results, the ever-popular Welly Boot Toss was this year won by the Women’s Champion, Emma with a throw of 14.21m, while the Men’s Champion was Chris with a Herculean effort of 27.23m.

And last, but certainly not least, there was the Tug of War contest, which got the crowd cheering the eventual victory of the team from The Corkman Bar and valiant runners up, PWC.

A fantastic day out for one and all 😃
