Another great day of surf fishing for the Hook, Line, and Warriors crew! We started at 6am with an outgoing tide. We had a perfect morning. Kat, Bonnie, Scott, Robert and his son, Luke, Brian and his wife, Tim, Kate, Scott, Jace, and Justin braved the sand and waves and hauled in kingfish, spot, croaker, doggies, and a skate. We had steady action until the tide was fairly low, then we had a slower pick. Bloodworms from Boulevard Bait and Tackle kept us in the game, along with Fishbites. Little chunks of spot helped too.
At the end of the trip we had all smiles. And a few if us in the know took a ride over to Brittons Bakery to snag some apple fritters and double stuffed creme donuts. If you know, you know. Worth the calories!
Overall a great day! Hoping to sneak in one more in September. When we figure it out I'll post it on the App. Thanks to all who came out, and to everyone who helped make it a great success!

Boy have I been slacking... I've had quite a few fun trips lately. We've been catching a lot of short flounder both out front and in the back. Lots of other species to go along with the flatties; sea bass, tog, kingfish, croakers, triggers, and many more. Loads of action, and lots of fun.
So, fun aside, here is something I've been seeing a lot of lately. Boaters who follow the channel markers tightly. These nimrods take turns well inside where they should be and create hazardous situations. Situations where is you aren't paying attention and recognizing the idiocy in front of you, accidents will occur. I had one such ignoranus today come around a green marker tight heading right at me. I was on the right side where I was supposed to be riding a fine line of depth as I saw the t**d coming. He suddenly swung wide when he finally noticed me and flipped me off. A real tough guy.
I see boats blocking narrow, shallow areas drifting. I get it, we all want to catch fish. But pick your area and be courteous. Move and yield to boats in the channel making way. It's not that difficult.
Then there are the k***s out on the reefs and wrecks. They jump on your spot when they see you hook up. Right on top of you. Never mind you are there, or back trolling. Nope, run right up on you within a few feet. Or there are those who like to slide by you real close. Checking out what you've caught. Then stop right on top of you.
Simple etiquette. Common courtesy. So what is it? More money than brains? Kids borrowing daddies boat? Lack of education? Just plain old ignoranuses? The rental boat crews? I just don't get it. This is just a small sampling of what I see out on the water. Thankfully there hasn't been any catastrophic events here so far. Hopefully there are none...

We are kicking off our Bubs Welding firepit raffle! This beastly firepit is a work of art. Meticulously handcrafted by the artisans at Bubs Welding in Bridgeton, NJ.
We have a limited number of tickets [200] to keep it fair and worth the price of the admission. Tickets are $25 each, or two for $40. When you purchase your ticket make certain you write your name and phone number clearly on the stub. That way, when you win, I can call and inform you of your wonderful luck! If I can't read it, you'll be out of luck.
We plan to have the firepit at our tent during the North Wildwood Irish Festival September 25th to the 27th. Stop by to say hello, check out our gear, and the firepit. We will draw the winner at 3pm on the 27th.

August 8th is our next surf fishing trip at Poverty Beach in Cape May. 0600-1000.

August 17th will be our final four hour fluke trip for the season. Join us aboard the Starfish at 1300 until 1700. Leaving out of Sea Isle City.

Congressman Van Drew Stands Up for Veterans' Benefits, Calls for Passage of Major Richard Star Act


Washington, DC - Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement after working to prevent the Taking Care of America's Veterans Act from advancing to final passage in its current form due to serious concerns over using reductions in certain veterans' disability benefits to pay for other provisions in the bill.

"Doing right by our veterans has always been one of my highest priorities, and this bill contains many provisions that I strongly support," said Congressman Van Drew. "But the way it is paid for is unacceptable. It would reduce disability compensation available to veterans who file claims for service-connected health conditions. We should never take benefits away from one group of veterans to provide benefits to another. That is why I could not in good conscience support it in its current form. I have spoken directly with the VFW and veterans across South Jersey, and they share these serious concerns.

"I am a proud cosponsor of the Major Richard Star Act and signed the discharge petition to bring it to the floor. The bill would end the unfair offset that prevents certain combat-injured veterans who were medically retired before reaching 20 years of service from receiving both their full military retirement pay and VA disability compensation. These veterans earned both benefits through their service and sacrifice, and they should not be forced to choose between them. Congress should pass the Major Richard Star Act as written and then work together to advance the other worthwhile provisions in a responsible way that does not make disabled veterans pay the bill. We can and must do better for every veteran.

We are just iver a week away from our fundraising booze cruise aboard the Starfish Boats on Friday, July 24th from 6 to 8pm.
Tickets are $50 and every cent goes toward helping out veterans to reel in calmer seas. We take them fishing for their overall well-being. Ecotherapy.
There will be hoagies from Mandy's Subs. Music. And we hope to have a few other goodies for everyone, a goodie bag for example.

Today was our second fluke trip of the season aboard the Starfish Boats. Not a ton of action with the flounder, but the triggerfish kept everyone busy. Lots of fun, laughs, and good stories! Looking forward to our next trips in August. Stay tuned!

What a fun morning! Hook, Line, and Warriors hosted a few brave souls who dared to rise early and come down onto the beach to test their mettle against some finned adversaries.
Tom, Kat, Robert, Drew and his nephews joined us for the angling adventure. We had special guest Sal from sponsor SunBelt with us too. Scott was onboard to help out and keep things running smoothly.
We set out a bunch of rods with Fishbites, bloodworms, croaker, kingfish, and dog sharks to see what we could catch. We managed a few kingfish, some croakers, too many doggies, and two nice little brown sharks. It was kinda slow, but fun all the same. Great conversations, fantastic stories, simple laughs, and flat out fun.
If you missed out, you really missed out. Already looking forward to next month's trip. Stay posted. More fun to come!
