The Institution of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia (IGRSM) will be a co-convener for the session Satellites, Societies and Sustainability at the Japan Geoscience Union - American Geophysical Union Joint Meeting 2026 (JpGU-AGU 2026), which will be held from 24 to 29 May 2026 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan. The meeting provides a collaborative platform for global scientists, researchers and students to present and discuss the latest developments in geosciences across a wide range of disciplines, including earth science, climate change, geophysics and environmental science. Further details on the meeting are available at https://www.jpgu.org/meeting_e2026

The session on Satellites, Societies and Sustainability (Session U-06) will examine how space-based technologies support a resilient, equitable and sustainable future. Satellites play a critical role in planetary monitoring, understanding human impacts and enabling informed decision-making across sectors. Contributions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) are welcome, particularly in areas such as climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, food and water security, as well as disaster risk reduction. The session also encourages discussions on innovative data processing, integration with socioeconomic indicators, and broader issues of data access, ethics, digital equity and capacity building.

This session is a collaboration between members of Zayed University, Kyoto University, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), IGRSM, Hokkaido University, Philippine Space Agency, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (Philippines), as well as University of the Philippines System.

Further details on the session are available at:
https://www.jpgu.org/meeting_e2026/sessionlist_en/detail/U-06.html

In cases where abstract submission and /or registration fees may present a constraint, Prof. Dr. Takahashi Yukihiro and Mdm. Eriko Momota have kindly indicated that they may consider providing personal assistance. Interested parties may contact them directly via email at [email protected] or [email protected]

Students are encouraged to apply for travel support for students and scientists from developing countries through the JpGU website.
