Afar CSOs Council Sets Strategic Directions to Strengthen Institutional Capacity
(Semera; April 20, 2026).
The Executive Committee of the Afar Civil Society Organizations Council (ACSC) held an extensive consultative meeting to evaluate the council's performance since its inception and to determine its future strategic course.
During the meeting, the President of the Council, H.E. Mr. Kamil Humed , emphasized that the council serves as a vital platform for civil society organizations operating in the region to share experiences, consult one another, and stand united on regional agendas. The President further stated that strengthening institutional systems is a top priority to ensure the council fulfills its mandate effectively.
Following a thorough evaluation of its activities since formation, the Executive Committee has set the following six key strategic directions for the upcoming period:
1. Preparation of a Strategic Plan: Developing a 12-month (one-year) strategic plan to guide the council's long-term vision and mission.
2. Annual Operational Work Plan: Creating a detailed annual work program to translate the strategic plan into actionable tasks.
3. Approval of Governance Guidelines (ToR): Finalizing and endorsing a Terms of Reference (ToR) to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the Executive Committee.
4. Institutional Manuals Development: Adopting various institutional manuals to lead the council with modern, transparent, and accountable systems.
5. Member Capacity Building: Organizing consecutive training programs to enhance the effectiveness of member organizations under the council's umbrella.
6. Experience Sharing: Establishing strong relationships with similar council structures at national and regional levels to facilitate knowledge exchange. This strategic direction is expected to significantly bolster the Council's role in the region's development, humanitarian response, and good governance initiatives.
