看医生，自己去。
买菜，自己去。
身体还撑得住的时候，就自己买、自己煮；没有煮饭，就到楼下打包一份杂饭。

如果真的病倒了，没有家人在身边照顾，73岁的吴天生只能一个人躺着休息。没有力气煮饭时，就简单吃些面包或粥填饱肚子。

妻子于2018年离世后，他一直独自生活。多年来，他曾经历大肠癌，也长期面对哮喘、忧郁症、前列腺问题、高血压、胆固醇等健康问题，如今还患有狭窄型克罗恩病（Crohn’s Disease with Stricture）。

回忆当年抗癌及亡妻陪伴自己走过最艰难的日子时，他一度红了眼眶，只轻轻说：

“不要想那么多，越想它就越伤心。”

如今，医生建议他继续接受 Ustekinumab（Stelara）生物制剂治疗。若病情无法获得适当控制，肠道可能持续发炎及狭窄，严重时甚至可能需要接受手术。

接下来3支药物费用共 RM26,775。马大医院福利部门已批准 RM10,000药物补贴，惟仍有：

❤️ RM16,775医药费等待筹措

吴天生自2019年因健康问题停止工作，目前每月仅靠RM500年长者补贴及RM550生活援助维持基本生活，实在无力承担这笔高额医药费。

过去多年来，社会大众一次又一次的善意，陪着他走过疾病与生活上的难关。

这一次，我们再次恳请大家伸出援手。
无论RM10、RM20或任何数额，每一份善意，都能为他的下一阶段治疗多添一份希望。❤️

He goes to his medical appointments alone.
He buys his own groceries.
When he is well enough, he cooks for himself; otherwise, he gets a simple meal from a nearby mixed-rice stall.

But when he falls ill, 73-year-old Mr Ng Thian Sang has no family member by his side to care for him. He can only lie down and rest at home, sometimes surviving on simple meals such as bread or porridge when he does not have the strength to cook.

Mr Ng has been living alone since his wife passed away in 2018. Over the years, he has battled colorectal cancer and continues to live with asthma, depression, prostate problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other health conditions.

Today, he is also suffering from Crohn’s Disease with Stricture, which requires long-term monitoring and treatment.

While recalling his previous battle with cancer and the years when his late wife stood by him through the most difficult period of his life, Mr Ng became emotional and quietly said:

“I try not to think too much about the past. The more I think about it, the sadder I become.”

Doctors have advised him to continue Ustekinumab (Stelara) biologic treatment. Without proper control, the inflammation and narrowing of his intestines may worsen and, in severe cases, surgery may eventually be required.

The next 3 doses of treatment will cost RM26,775. After a RM10,000 medication subsidy approved by the hospital welfare department, he still needs:

Mr Ng has been unable to work since 2019 due to his health. His monthly income now consists only of a RM500 elderly allowance and RM550 in living assistance, leaving him with no means to bear such a heavy medical cost on his own.

Over the years, the kindness of the public has helped him through one difficult stage after another.

♿ 靠自己的能力，为生活多走一步｜黄伟昌 Ooi Wai Chang

26岁的黄伟昌，自幼双腿无力、行动受限，日常主要依靠轮椅代步。

行动的不便，没有让伟昌停止尝试靠自己的能力生活。

平日里，他会到附近的餐馆和店屋售卖纸巾；有机会时，也会帮忙维修轮椅，靠自己的双手赚取一些收入。

伟昌与母亲相依生活。父亲过去因中风卧床超过20年，于2022年离世；如今，母亲虽然仍坚持工作，却也同时面对癫痫、糖尿病、高血压及长期腿痛等健康问题，需要持续接受治疗。

医疗、交通、日常用品、水电和每一天的生活需要，都是这个家庭长期面对的负担。每当出现额外或突发开销，能够周转的空间并不多。

即使如此，伟昌仍然努力寻找自己能够做的事情。

卖一包纸巾也好，修好一辆轮椅也好，对他而言，都是靠自己的能力，为生活多走一步。

♿ Taking One More Step Forward, in His Own Way | Ooi Wai Chang

At 26, Ooi Wai Chang has lived with weakness in both legs and limited mobility since childhood, and relies mainly on a wheelchair to get around.

But his physical limitations have not stopped him from trying to earn a living in whatever way he can.

Wai Chang sells tissue paper at nearby eateries and shoplots, and whenever there is an opportunity, he also helps repair wheelchairs to earn some additional income.

He lives with his mother, who continues to work despite facing her own health challenges, including epilepsy, diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic leg pain. His father, who had been bedridden for more than 20 years following a stroke, passed away in 2022.

For the family, medical needs, transportation, utilities, daily necessities and everyday living expenses are ongoing concerns. With very little financial buffer, even an unexpected expense can easily place additional pressure on the household.

Yet Wai Chang continues to look for ways to contribute.

Whether it is selling a packet of tissue paper or repairing a wheelchair, each small effort represents his determination to keep moving forward and support himself in the ways he can.

Wai Chang is one of the Batch 4 beneficiaries under Yayasan Nanyang Press’ Building Hope: Supporting Families of Persons with Disabilities programme.

【Living with Glaucoma and Kidney Disease, Depending on Long-Term Dialysis from a Young Age】

Tan Khai Loon, aged 34, has suffered from glaucoma since birth, leaving him with severely impaired vision and affecting his daily life. At the age of 15, complications from glaucoma further damaged his kidney function, and he was later diagnosed with kidney disease, requiring long-term dialysis to sustain his life.

Due to his unstable health condition, Khai Loon is unable to work normally and finds it difficult to go out for extended periods. He relies on family support for many aspects of his daily life. Years of illness have not only affected his physical health, but also placed great emotional and social pressure on him.

At present, he mainly depends on his mother, who earns a living by selling rice vermicelli at the market. Her income is low and unstable, especially when rainy weather prevents her from opening her stall. With no stable source of income, she has to manage the family’s basic living expenses while also bearing Khai Loon’s ongoing medical, transport, and daily care needs.

With long-term dialysis, continuous follow-up care, and daily living expenses, the family is facing heavy financial pressure. We sincerely appeal to kind-hearted members of the public to lend a helping hand and ease their medical and living burden, so that Khai Loon can continue receiving the treatment he needs.
