We were honoured to be part of the launch of Cherish the Nature, a mangrove restoration initiative along the North Central Selangor Coast, co-implemented by IUCN Asia and the with support from .malaysia

During the three-day event at Kuala Selangor Nature Park, our team conducted an awareness booth highlighting the importance of Long-tailed macaques, a key species within mangrove ecosystems. Healthy mangroves do not only protect shorelines and support marine biodiversity, but also provide critical habitat for wildlife that depends on these interconnected landscapes.

It was inspiring to witness members of the public participating in biodiversity assessments and mangrove planting, demonstrating how community-led conservation strengthens climate resilience and safeguards our natural heritage.

Our sincere thanks to , Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), , Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Selangor, , , , , , (Explocave Merapoh) and all partner organisations and volunteers who made this meaningful initiative possible.

How can something as simple as a bin latch help prevent human–wildlife conflict and even support climate resilience?

Our latest article explores how reducing wildlife access to unsecured household waste can lower negative interactions between people and Long-tailed macaques, while supporting healthier urban ecosystems.

Developed through a collaboration with and , this work brings together community engagement, behavioural research, and practical design. By working closely with residents in Bukit Gasing, we identified food attractants as a key driver of conflict leading to the development of our monkey-proof bin latch.

This story was written by and produced as part of the PANAS! Climate Change Stories in Malaysia initiative by .my , in collaboration with , and supported by the Council Alumni UK Climate Action Grant. Read our article at or click the link in our bio!

Understanding why human–wildlife conflict happens changes how we see wildlife including our macaques.
When we recognise these root causes, we move away from blame and towards coexistence.

Awareness is the first step to protecting wildlife and building kinder communities.

We joined the RELIC Seminar 2026 at Universiti Putra Malaysia. Project research-based experiential learning with industry and community (RELIC) is a collaborative pedagogical project with multiple stakeholders of Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara.

From macaque behaviour and human–wildlife conflict to plant diversity and tree risk analysis, students shared research grounded in real-world conservation challenges.

Meaningful learning happens when research meets the field and when students, NGOs, and communities learn together. Huge thanks to Department of Forestry Science and Biodiversity of Universiti Putra Malaysia for inviting us to be part of this impactful seminar.
