UPF Malaysia extends our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kumaran Adakalam, President of SSDI, and his dedicated team for their noble efforts in empowering underprivileged young girls through welfare support, education, arts, and cultural development.

UPF Malaysia and SSDI have maintained a meaningful partnership through educational and cultural exchange programmes, including collaborations during the Deepavali celebrations in 2021. In the same year, Dr. Kumaran was presented with the Distinguished Humanitarian Award by UPF in recognition of his outstanding humanitarian service and lifelong commitment to community upliftment.

Petaling Jaya, 31 January 2026

In conjunction with World Interfaith Harmony Week, Universal Peace Federation Malaysia (UPF Malaysia) co-organised a gotong-royong (community clean-up) and charity programme at Kampung Baru Seri Setia, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, highlighting interfaith cooperation through practical service.

The programme was jointly organised with the Village Development and Security Committee of Kampung Baru Seri Setia and Petaling Jaya City Council, with support from SWAN Association, Women’s Federation for World Peace Malaysia (WFWP Malaysia) and Ajar-ajar Malaysia. The event was attended by Sudesh Balasubramaniam, President of UPF Malaysia, and Lina Cheng, President of WFWP Malaysia, demonstrating leadership support for grassroots peacebuilding and community harmony.

A total of 60 volunteers from the village, UPF Malaysia, WFWP Malaysia and partner organisations participated in the community clean-up activity. Volunteers gathered at the village multipurpose hall before being organised into teams to cover several streets around the village. Working together, participants collected rubbish and litter, embodying the Malaysian tradition of gotong-royong, which emphasises cooperation, shared responsibility and mutual respect. The volunteers were welcomed by Ding Eow Chai, Chairman of the Village Committee, who expressed appreciation for their service to the community.

The programme also included a community support and educational empowerment component. UPF Malaysia sponsored food packages for 25 families of the village. In addition, six students received refurbished laptops from WFWP Malaysia under its “Give Me a Chance” Education Empowerment Initiative. The student beneficiaries also took part in the clean-up activities.

Through this initiative, UPF Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to advancing interfaith harmony, volunteerism and social cohesion in alignment with the vision and principles of the Universal Peace Federation.
