Kata Katha: Talkback with Bright Ong and Christine Das

Following Peter Ong’s Monkey Business talk, join Bright Ong and Christine Das in a relaxed, informal setting for an open and engaging conversation on the making of PROJECT RIWAYAT.

This session offers an opportunity to hear directly from the duo as they reflect on the development of the project, from its conceptual foundations to the evolving processes behind its creation. They will also offer insights into the intentions and guiding questions that shaped the project, particularly in relation to themes of wildlife conservation, contemporary artistic practice, and the shifting ways we understand and relate to the natural world.

The conversation will open up broader reflections on storytelling, responsibility, and imagination, considering how artistic practice can respond to urgent ecological and cultural concerns, while also pointing towards possible futures.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to this session, which brings the first iteration of PROJECT RIWAYAT by Bright Ong and Christine Das to a conclusion.

Not all “business” is human… some of it swings through ancient rainforests, calls across misty highlands, and moves silently through limestone shadows.

Join Peter Ong (Project Monyet) for Monkey Business, a 30-minute journey into Peninsular Malaysia’s wildest boardrooms, where Siamangs duet like thunder, Slow Lorises slip through the night, and Stump-tailed Macaques keep watch over forgotten ranges.

From biodiverse landscapes to urgent conservation stories, this is a closer look at the lives we share space with, and too often overlook.

Where sound becomes movement, and movement becomes sound.

Join us for Nāda / Resonance — an intimate live collaboration between Aida Redza, Luvenia Kalia & Santosh Logandran, rooted in the ancient practice of Nāda Yoga.

This isn’t a performance you just watch, it’s one you feel. Live music, embodied movement, and deep listening converge in real time, creating a sensory journey where vibration, breath, and rhythm become one.

Rebuilding Our Connection to Nature: Why It Matters

In a world increasingly shaped by screens, concrete, and technology, have we lost touch with the very environment that sustains us?

Join us for an interactive panel session curated by The Habitat Foundation, as part of Project Riwayat, where we rethink what it means to be human in a modern world. We’ll explore why staying connected to nature remains fundamental to our well-being and how we can foster that bond within our cities and for the next generation.

The Panelists
We are honored to host three incredible voices in conservation:

(i) Bernard Harrison (Former Director of Singapore Zoo): The visionary behind the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, sharing how zoos and gardens can awaken our innate curiosity about "wild things."

(ii) Justine Vaz (Executive Director, The Habitat Foundation): A geographer and practitioner who believes that preserving wild places like the Al Sultan Abdullah Tiger Reserve is essential for human wellbeing.

(iii) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadine Ruppert (Primatologist): Discussing "Nature Next Door" and what urban primates can teach us about intelligence, adaptability, and the art of coexistence.

Did you see a flash of a fin, or was it just the waves?

Whales, dolphins, porpoises, and dugongs aren't just visitors to Malaysia, they are our neighbors, living in our waters since time immemorial. Yet, as our world changes, these "everyday Malaysians" are struggling to stay afloat.

It isn’t a choice between us or them. Protecting these majestic creatures means protecting the very ecosystems that sustain our own lives.

As part of Project Riwayat, join us for an eye-opening session with Dr. Louisa Ponnampalam, co-founder of MareCet, as we explore how we can move from being foes to friends of the sea.
Let’s learn how to share our waters and protect our collective future.
