Citizens International wish to extend the invitation to you to join our Global South Lecture Series delivered by Prof. Jomo Kwame Sundaram, titled “ _What is at Stake in a Fragmented World Today: Rethinking Peace, Imperialism, and the Global Disorder_ ”. This session will be joined by two esteemed discussants: Dr. Farwa Sial (IDEAs) and Dr. Sh Fatimah Alzahrah (IIUM).

This lecture seeks to discuss how imperial competition deepens inequalities and normalizes militarism, thereby threatening global peace as rival powers are now actively reshaping the world order through coercion and spheres of influence.

Friends! We would like to invite all of you to join our Global South Webinar Series featuring important scholars in the International Relations (IR) world.

This session will feature Dr. Pascal Lottaz, leading researcher in Neutrality studies as the speaker, and Dr. Munirah Alatas, another important thinker in Global IR and Higher Education, as the discussant.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: Neutrality in international relations is often assumed to be a passive Western concept. However, the underlying logic of third-parties distancing themselves from the conflicts of others is neither Western in origin nor passive statecraft. From Kautilya's political treatises in ancient India to the nonalignment movement's deliberate rejection of Cold War bloc politics, non-Western traditions have long grappled with the same fundamental predicaments: how to remain outside the conflicts of others without surrendering political agency.

This talk disentangles the historically Western layers of neutrality—its legal codification and European institutional form—from the universal social dynamic that underpins all neutral-belligerent relationships, arguing that nonalignment represents not a deviation but its most consequential global expression with very important implications for the multipolar future.

The world today has entered a perilous time where the present conjuncture poses a fundamental threat to both our contemporary civilization and planetary existence. There are many factors that are constitutive of this conjuncture, some of which have been present singly at one time or another, but there has never been a time when all were present together. For instance, the gap between our technological knowledge and our capacity to think in moral and ethical terms has exponentially widened, global economic inequality has sharpened, and the rising threat of global warming looms large.

In this first of two talks, Professor Vinay Lal will lay out eleven elements of the present conjuncture which present an extraordinary moral challenge to us; in the second talk, he will focus on the politics of knowledge systems and gesture at the new knowledge and ethical frameworks required for these perilous times.

We stand at a stark historical crossroads. Will the same Western powers - the United States, Israel, NATO - once again dictate the 21st century, sliding us back into world wars, genocides, and atomic annihilation? Or is there another path?

There is. It was articulated in April 1955, when 29 newly independent Asian and African nations gathered in Bandung, Indonesia. They represented more than half of humanity. They rejected colonialism in all its forms. They called for peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, non-interference, and economic cooperation among the Global South. The Bandung Conference gave birth to the Non-Aligned Movement and a truly universal vision - one not based on Western individualism, competition, or the threat of force.

Membaca Sosialisme Islam adalah membaca pemikiran yang bergelut dengan persoalan "modernity".

Siri Baca & Mendunia tiba sekali lagi dengan tema “Islam & Cabaran Era Penjajahan Moden”.

Kali ini kita bakal membincangkan tradisi Islam dan perkaitannya dalam mendepani cabaran kolonialisme dan negara moden. Sejarah gerakan Islam sedunia bergerak seiring dengan sejarah perlawanan dan pergelutan dengan cabaran-cabaran pentadbiran kolonialisme. Melalui perlawan dan pertembungan ini, gerakan dan para pemikir Islam mula melancarkan kritik, bahkan turut menawarkan alternatif baru untuk mendepani realiti dunia moden.
