Halo by Roh Young-wan (South Korea)

Synopsis
Seo Min-joon, a 27-year-old delivery driver living out of his van on the indifferent streets of Seoul. While enduring the isolating grind of gig labor and a suffocating, dysfunctional family, he quietly clings to a dream of making films. His bleak reality shifts when a cryptic fortune teller claims he is cursed with a self-sacrificing destiny, advising him that his only escape is to find his "halo" in the United Kingdom. Eschewing traditional melodrama, this poetic indie drama explores the fragile space where systemic despair meets artistic longing, capturing how a fragile spark of hope can rewrite a marginalized worker's interior world.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CINETHESIS® EDITION 7 POSTPONED TO NEXT YEAR

TVETMARA Rembau, 11 October 2026 – The organisers of the Neo-South Independent Film Festival (NSIFF) Edition 7 announce that the academic segment CineThesis® Edition 7, originally scheduled for 17 October 2026 at TVETMARA Rembau, will be postponed to next year.

This decision was made after the organisers reviewed the planning and requirements of the segment. Unforeseen circumstances affected the preparations for CineThesis, and after considering its original objective as a comprehensive and balanced academic platform, postponement is the best course of action to preserve the quality and integrity of the segment.

CineThesis was introduced as a space for presenting research papers on Malay Cinema, connecting academic researchers with industry practitioners and the general public. It was designed to add value to the festival and foster a scholarly culture among film researchers. As these goals require sufficient and balanced panel participation, the organisers believe that postponement is the most appropriate decision.

The organisers apologise for any inconvenience caused, especially to the panel members who have shown commitment and made preparations. We extend our highest appreciation to all parties involved.

The Neo-South Independent Film Festival Edition 7 will still take place on 17–18 October 2026 at TVETMARA Rembau, featuring main programmes such as film screenings, Neo Talks, Neo Opus, Neo Premiere, and the winners’ announcement. CineThesis will return in the next edition with a more mature plan.

They never experienced it directly or went onto the streets to face the soldiers, yet the stories they heard and the voices that reached them felt like an endless war film replaying in their minds.
