Sarawak Taekwon-Do Association ITF Celebrates 30 Years of Giving with Chinese New Year Charity Drive
KUCHING – The Sarawak Taekwon-Do Association ITF marked the Chinese New Year with its longstanding tradition of giving, donating 250 packets of rice to the Sarawak Hung Nam Siang T’ng Welfare Home. In the presence of coaches from various branches, Grandmaster Johnny Chai, Vice Chairman of the Association, formally presented the donated items to Mr. Tay Boon Sin, Chairman of the Sarawak Hui Nam Siang Tng, and the association’s committee.
Now in its 30th year, the annual charity drive remains a meaningful highlight on the association’s calendar. More than just a festive contribution, the initiative reflects the true spirit of the “DO” in ITF Taekwon-Do — a way of life rooted in discipline, compassion, and service to others.
Chief Instructor Grandmaster Johnny Chai Min Fah said the effort embodies the principles upheld in the Student Oath. “Our training goes beyond self-defence; it is about building character,” he shared, emphasizing that martial arts should help shape individuals who contribute positively to society.
He also expressed sincere appreciation to the parents, members, and affiliated training centres whose unwavering support has sustained the initiative for three decades. Their continued generosity, he noted, ensures the association not only develops skilled practitioners but also nurtures responsible and caring members of the community.
Through acts of kindness like this, the association demonstrates that Taekwon-Do is not just about physical strength, but about cultivating empathy and helping build a more harmonious world.
