AIADR is pleased to announce the AIADR Mediation Training Course, taking place this December in Kuala Lumpur.

If you are interested in entering the field of mediation or strengthening your dispute resolution skills, the course offers learning and practical training to help you develop your skills and better understand the mediator’s role.

The course is recognised by the International Mediation Institute (IMI). Upon successful completion, you will qualify as an AIADR Qualified Mediator and an IMI Qualified Mediator. You will also be eligible to apply for Member of AIADR (MAIADR).

AIADR is proud to be a Supporting Organisation of the ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition 2026, organised by ICC Hong Kong and co-organised by the Hong Kong Department of Justice and City University of Hong Kong.

The competition brings university students together to work through realistic commercial disputes. Taking the roles of clients and counsel, participants have an opportunity to develop their mediation advocacy skills and gain practical experience in advancing their interests towards a settlement.

AIADR is pleased to support an initiative that gives future practitioners meaningful exposure to mediation in practice. Opportunities such as this contribute to ADR education and the development of skills that students can carry into their professional careers.

We are pleased to share the upcoming webinar, “Construction Claims and Responses: Effective Writing and Presentation,” organised by the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR) in collaboration with the Institute of Construction Claims Practitioners.

Featuring Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo and Andy Hewitt, the session will provide practical insights into the preparation, structure and presentation of construction claims and responses. The discussion will cover the essential elements of effective claims, the impact of poorly drafted submissions, and approaches to presenting a clear and persuasive case.

The webinar will take place on 23 October 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM (MYT, GMT+8) via Zoom. Construction professionals, claims practitioners, lawyers, consultants and others involved in construction disputes and contract administration are encouraged to register and join the session.

We are delighted to share that the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR), in collaboration with the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre, successfully organised the Tribunal Secretary Programme in Oman.

The programme was led by Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo and Casper Tey. Datuk Sundra shared perspectives drawn from his extensive experience as an international arbitrator, including the role, responsibilities and professional standards expected of tribunal secretaries. Casper complemented this with practical guidance on carrying out the role effectively and the key skills aspiring tribunal secretaries should develop.

AIADR extends its sincere appreciation to the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre for its collaboration and support in making the programme a success. AIADR is pleased to share that our President, Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo, was invited to participate as a panel speaker at GHAC Arbitration Week 2026, in the session titled “Rules of Private International Law Governing International Commercial Arbitration.”

During the session, Datuk Sundra shared Malaysia’s recent developments on the law governing arbitration agreements, including the introduction of Section 9A of the Arbitration Act 2005 and its significance in providing greater clarity and certainty in international arbitration. He also touched on the Malaysian courts’ approach and the broader challenges that can arise where the applicable law is not clearly determined.

We are delighted to see Datuk Sundra contributing to this important discussion alongside fellow panellists Vijaya Kumar Rajah SC, Darius Khambata, Thomas Williams and Nish Shetty. Asia ADR Summit – New Dates: 5–7 March 2027

The Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR) wishes to share an important update regarding the Asia ADR Summit.

In light of the recent circumstances in Nepal, the Summit has been rescheduled from 4–6 December 2026 to 5–7 March 2027, and will continue to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

This decision has been made in consultation with our partners in Nepal and with respect for the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.

We thank our members, speakers, Supporting Organisations, partners and the wider ADR community for your understanding and continued support.

We are pleased to share the successful completion of Session 4 of the Overseas Online Lecture Series, ADR Principles & Practices.

The session, “Building the Tribunal: Appointment, Powers and Challenges in Arbitration,” explored the constitution and functioning of an arbitral tribunal, including the appointment of arbitrators, their roles and responsibilities, and challenges that may arise during tribunal proceedings. Participants also gained practical perspectives on managing common issues and ensuring the effective functioning of an arbitral tribunal.

AIADR extends its sincere appreciation to Paul Rose for sharing his knowledge, experience and practical perspectives throughout the session. We also thank the students and participants of Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai for their active participation and engagement.

We look forward to continuing the Overseas Online Lecture Series and providing further opportunities for participants to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

AIADR and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Malaysia Branch recently concluded the International Chartered Arbitrator Experience Sharing and Exchange Event in Nanning, China, with the support of the Nanning International Arbitration Court (NIAC) and the China-ASEAN Commercial Arbitration Cooperation Centre (CACACC).

Held under the theme “China-ASEAN Commercial Arbitration Innovation, Collaboration and Regional Integration,” the event brought together practitioners and professionals to exchange experiences and perspectives on commercial arbitration, developments in practice, and the importance of continued cooperation across China, ASEAN and the wider region.

Our sincere appreciation goes to the guest speakers — Prof. Dr. Navin G. Ahuja, FCIArb FAIADR , Adjunct Professor Ar IDr David Yek Tak Wai RIBA, FCIArb, LLM. , Lee Tze Jiet, Christine Khor, Evveline Ziwei Loh (罗紫琟) MCiARb , Rammit Kaur Charan Singh, Jashveenjit Singh Gill , and Eunice Kwong for generously sharing their knowledge, practical experience and professional perspectives throughout the programme.

We also extend our thanks to NIAC and CACACC for their support and collaboration in making the event possible in Nanning, and to all participants who joined the sessions and contributed to the discussions.

Beyond the formal presentations, the event provided a valuable setting for professionals from different backgrounds and jurisdictions to meet, learn from one another and strengthen connections within the arbitration community.

On 20 and 21 August 2026, Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo, President of AIADR, was invited for the New York Convention Judicial Colloquium, organised by the Supreme Court of the Philippines and the Philippine Judicial Academy.

The Colloquium brought together members of the judiciary, arbitration practitioners and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on key issues surrounding international arbitration and the application of the New York Convention.

Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo was invited to contribute to several sessions during the programme, speaking on:

* Asserting and Defending Sovereign Immunity
* Interim Relief in Support of Arbitration
* State of Play in International Arbitration in the Philippines – Interactive Plenary Roundtable

Drawing on his decades of experience in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, Datuk Sundra Rajoo shared practical perspectives and insights from his work in the field, contributing to the discussions and exchange of views among fellow speakers and participants.

We are delighted AIADR had the opportunity to contribute to this important dialogue and to the wider exchange of knowledge and experience within the international arbitration community.
