I am truly glad and honoured to be part of an excellent and forward-thinking team under the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA). Since its establishment in 1994, MFA has played a pivotal role in supporting the Government’s agenda to promote entrepreneurship through franchising. Over the years, MFA has grown into a trusted platform that unites franchisors, franchisees, regulators, and industry stakeholders, championing ethical and sustainable franchise growth in Malaysia.
Yesterday deliberation at Concord Hotel, KL (after 3 rounds of deliberation), after many years, we are undertaking a long-overdue and much-needed review of our Constitution. This constitutional reform is part of a broader initiative to ensure MFA remains relevant, effective, and forward-looking. Some of the key updates we are proposing include:
(a) Aligning our membership structure with the national franchise registration system, ensuring transparency, accountability, and streamlined processes.
(b) Allowing franchisees to become members, with the consent of their franchisors, fostering inclusivity and collaboration while respecting franchise system integrity.
(c) Adapting our governance to modern realities by formally incorporating the use of Zoom, hybrid meetings, electronic voting, and digital communications, making MFA more accessible, responsive, and agile.
(d) Reviewing and adjusting membership fees to reflect the enhanced value MFA aims to deliver. This is not just about increasing fees—it is about building capacity to do more for our members.
Believe you me, this is not about paying more, but about achieving more, together. With improved resources, MFA will:
(a) Organise more impactful activities, including conferences, exhibitions, podcast and specialised training programmes.
(b) Conduct stronger outreach and advocacy, ensuring our members' voices are heard by policymakers and regulators.
(c) Provide enhanced member services, support, and tools for business growth.
(d) Strengthen MFA’s position as the voice and authority of franchising in Malaysia.
Importantly, MFA is also bridging Malaysia’s franchise industry with global opportunities. As a recognised member of the World Franchise Council (WFC), MFA is connected to leading franchise associations around the world. Through these international platforms, we are opening doors for our members to expand their brands beyond Malaysia, participate in international trade missions, and tap into global best practices and partnerships.
Moving forward, MFA will continue to serve as a vital bridge—connecting our members not only with government agencies and national stakeholders, but also with overseas counterparts, to ensure that Malaysian franchises are well-positioned to grow regionally and globally.
