WoW-KL World of Words - Reading with a purpose Reviving Malaysia’s reading culture through stories, ideas, imagination and meaningful public conversations.

About WoW-KL

WoW-KL (World of Words Kuala Lumpur) is a Malaysian reading and literary movement dedicated to reviving reading culture through storytelling, ideas, imagination and meaningful public conversations. What began as a literary festival has evolved into a growing platform connecting readers, educators, schools, universities, authors, publishers, book clubs and cultural voices across Malaysia. Through forums, workshops, awards, storytelling initiatives and public engagement, WoW-KL seeks to make reading relevant, accessible and inspiring again for a new generation.

IT MAY seem as though e-books and digital screens have rendered printed copies obsolete, but the days of physical books are far from over.

Some people change lives with money.

Some change lives with power.

Some change lives with words.

Think about it for a moment.

Who was the person who sparked your curiosity?

The teacher who introduced you to a book that opened a new world.

The parent who read to you before bedtime.

The mentor who challenged you to think differently.

The librarian who always seemed to know the perfect book.

The author whose words stayed with you long after you turned the final page.

Someone came to mind, didn't they?

Tag them below.

At WoW-KL, we believe that reading is more than a pastime. It is a pathway to imagination, empathy, knowledge and leadership.

The WoW-KL Awards 2026 seek to recognise the individuals, organisations and communities who are helping to build a better society through reading, literature and storytelling.

If someone came to mind when you read this, perhaps it's time to thank them.

And perhaps it's time to recognise them.

Books have always done more than tell stories.

They start conversations.
They connect strangers.
They create communities built on ideas, imagination and shared reflection.

In a world where people are increasingly disconnected from one another, reading still has the power to bring people together in meaningful ways.

This is one of the things we hope to build through WoW-KL.

Not just a festival.
Not just a series of talks.

But a growing community of readers, thinkers, educators, students, writers and everyday people who still believe that stories matter.

Because cultures are not built by algorithms alone.

They are built by conversations people choose to have together.
