This weekend, Bubbles of Hope FL partnered with Sarasota Bay Watch to help in real marine science!🔬
They went diving to collect and assess the lightning whelk population at a clam nursery before tagging a few and testing two methods of making them identifiable with Dr. Bassos-Hull from Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium .
What are whelks? 🐌
> They are predatory sea snails that breathe through gills
> They often use their shells as a crowbar to eat clams!
> They are prey to eagle rays, cod, octopus and starfish among others
With the sun shining and a pod of dolphins on the way there, it was an amazing opportunity and day overall for BOH leader Coco, Evan, Orion and Ziggy 🌊
