With deep sadness, we mourn the passing of Dato' Dr Sharom Ahmat.

Dato' Dr Sharom was not only a distinguished historian and former academic, but also a compassionate leader who dedicated himself tirelessly to the Penang Hospice Society and the community we serve. His unwavering commitment to ensuring dignity, care, and support for patients and their families has left a lasting legacy that will continue to guide us.

He inspired many through his wisdom, humility, and passion for service. The impact of his work reaches far beyond our organisation and its people. He has touched countless lives across the community.

Dato' Dr Sharom, your legacy of compassion and care will live on in all that we do. Thank you for your leadership, your kindness, and the legacy you leave behind. You will always be remembered.

Funeral prayers and burial are expected to take place at the Sungai Gelugor mosque this evening.

In Malaysia, nearly 250,000 people have been diagnosed with cancer from 2017 to 2023, with the percentage of deaths rising in recent years. This serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection, comprehensive support, and improved access to care.
